[F] [G] [C]
[G] This was a song [A] that I wrote that was out in 1997, a long, long time ago.
And it was a number one for a guy named Kevin Sharp.
It was a, you know, I thought this was going to happen like a couple times a year.
After I got a number one, I thought, finally.
I've been in Nashville five years.
I've had, you know, people cut my songs.
It didn't make the album.
I've had people tell me that my song was the best thing they'd heard.
And then they didn't record it.
I mean, I've been, you know, not every story, every songwriter has got that same story.
And this guy cut this song, and it had been put on hold by a bunch of people.
And we were hoping for like the big hitters, Diamond Rio and John Michael Montgomery.
He was hot at the time.
And Brian White.
We actually pitched this song to Brian White.
And they said, oh, we love that for this guy Kevin Sharp.
And I said, all right, cool, Kevin Sharp, who's that?
And I said, is he like one of them hunky cowboy hat wearing guys?
No, no, no, no, he's not.
He's a bald-headed country singer.
I'm like, oh, all right.
Well, I had hair back then.
But come to find out his story was pretty amazing.
He had cancer, and he went to the Make-A-Wish Foundation because he was terminal.
His wish was to meet David Foster, the legendary music producer.
And so he did, and then he went into remission.
Two years later he called David Foster up, and he was like, hey, I'm still here.
And would you like to hear some of my songs?
And so he played some songs, hoping maybe David would want to work with him.
And David said, hey, I think you're a country singer.
He said, hey, all right.
So he started this country label, put Kevin on it.
And, you know, I was, my co-writers, you know, we're videoing, so I'll go on record here.
My co-writers were mad at me for pitching the song to this guy because he was a new act.
And a lot of new acts, you guys never even hear of them.
They come, they go, and they never make it.
So they felt like we'd given away a really good song.
Well, a year later when it was number one, it was like everybody was all [G] happy,
and they all kind of forgot they were mad at me.
Yeah.
And [Dm] everybody wanted to take credit for having pitched the song to the new guy.
[Em] So here it goes.
It's called Sheesh You're Taking It [G] Well.
[D]
[Em]
Let me just [C] say, in 98, all I had to do was, [D] y'all would have been going [G] nuts.
[Em]
[C] Thank you very much.
[D] I [Gm] Will Beg.
I [Em] refuse to beg for it and pay for it at the same time.
That's the [E] only difference.
That's a different song.
[Em] We [G] decided [Em] to try going [Am] our own way [A] for a while
[D] And give each other [Em] some space
I [Am] never dreamed it [A] would be miles
[C] Well, I thought she would [D] cry
[Bm] While she was [Em] packing up
[Am] I guess something isn't wrong enough
[A] [D] Well, she's sure taking [Em] it well
Taking [C] my heart and [E] my soul
[G] Well, you'd think I [Em] wasn't here
Falling [C] apart, watching [E] her go
[Am] Well, if she knows it's killing [G] me
[C] You come look at her [Em] and tell
[D] My heart's breaking
She's sure taking it well
[G]
[C] [Em]
[D] [G] There go all of [Em] my dreams
Melting [Am] like sugar in the [A] rain
Oh, [Gm] I would love to [Em] believe
She's [Am] only smiling through the [A] pain
But [C] all these tears of mine
[Bm] Well, shouldn't she be [Em] sad
[Am] After losing everything we had
[G] She's sure taking [Em] it well
Taking [C] my heart [Em] and my [D] soul
[G] Oh, you'd think I [Em] wasn't here
Falling [C] apart, watching [E] her go
[Am] If she knows it's killing [Bm] me
You [C] couldn't look at her [Em] and tell
[D] My heart's breaking
She's sure taking [G] it well
Whoa, [Em] whoa, whoa
Whoa, [C] my heart's breaking
She's [A] sure taking it [G] well
Ooh, ooh, [C] [Em] ooh
[D] [G] Oh, she's sure taking [Em] it well Mm-hmm
[E] [G]
Thank [N] you, Seth.
Thank you.
