[C] [D] The rain is [C] coming
[D] And the rose is laying [G] in [E] your eyes
[F#m] I had a successful tour with Paul Simon
who was [Dm] someone also I admire greatly
in fact I would say was one of my teachers
and that worked so well that I thought
you know, I'd like to do this again
with, you know, who could I tour with
and then I thought of Peter
because we'd known each other for so long
And I have the teacher outfit
with the cane
and he thought of me
One, two, three
We were looking for a name
Rock, Paper, Scissors came up
Rock, we make some music
Paper, they made an offer we couldn't refuse
and after we do the business, we cut away
We're going to be happy and smiling
and really enjoy the whole experience
[D] Box to [F] box
[C] [Fm] [D] Right on the [Dm] right
In our youth, we've both done tours together for Amnesty
Initially in America and then around the world
So we know each other extremely well
and we have sang together before
This is not the first time
I'm very happy that we're taking the chance
and having an experiment this way
and I think people will be intrigued I'm intrigued
So the music, it already fits in people's heads
It already has a connection
And as Peter said, we've toured a lot together
you know, with Amnesty in the 80s
Was it the 80s?
God, it was the 80s
Yeah, it was the 80s
One, two, three Oh!
Well, we haven't yet chosen the exact songs that we're doing
but we will start together
We'll probably do two songs together
and then we'll choose who will do a set on their own
for 15, 20 minutes
and then we'll come together again
and then I'll do a set or Peter will do a set
So maybe there's four segments
joined together by the two of us together
But we haven't chosen the songs yet
I mean, that's going to take some brainstorming
I think for me it's partly what sounds good
in that present incarnation
and also balanced with what people want to hear
So, you know, you want to try and get both sides
and throw in something unfamiliar as well
People want to hear hits
I've never shied away from playing hits
I think it's fun
because there's always something new to find in a song
You may have been singing for 35 years, who knows
But I would also
It's a long song
Yeah, a long song
Spicing it up with things that are a little bit esoteric
We can do that as well
But people will come and hear the hits
What we're famous for
One, two, three
The interesting thing for me
more than defining what the differences or the similarities are
are what happens to our songs
when they're juxtaposed with each other's songs
Re-contextualizing what you do
because it will obviously change
What I do will change what he does
and vice versa
And then the songs that we trade
or the songs that we sing together
will have an unexpected, we hope, result
So we don't really know what it is
We're familiar with how each other function on the road
and what intrigues [Bm] me, I think, is that
you get a good bunch of musicians together
and interesting things will happen if they're [A] allowed to Fledgehammer
[F] Well, I don't know
I'll do that bit
Wrapped around your finger
Yeah, wrapped around
Yeah, that's, see
You can have it, it's yours
I screw up every title
I try and keep my mouth [D] shut
because then I'm going to screw it up less
[F] [C] Shut [D] the market
[F] We're not competing, you know, at all
I think there'll be a healthy raising of the game
for each of us to stand on the same stage
and so that will only be helpful
See, I've come through always knowing
there are people around me that can do
anything I do better than I can
but I can put them together in a way that is me
and that I'm comfortable with
and that's always been the [C] thing to sustain me
Work the market, [Dm] get hot, [A#] man
The main impetus of doing it is going to be fun
We like each other, we like each other's music
so, you know, why not?
Unless some disaster [B] happens
I think we'll have a [F#] good time
[G#m] [B] [F#m]
[D] [C#m] [A] [B] [F#]
[D] And the rose is laying [G] in [E] your eyes
