Hey everybody!
Welcome to Brewer's [Gb] Guitar Instruction.
[Eb] I am going over [G] a really, really cool song that the Doobie Brothers did called Taking
It to the Streets.
I'd like to go over the chords with you.
You're going to start [Fm] off fourth string, third string, and second string.
I'm in [Em] the sixth fret with my middle finger, fifth fret with my first finger, and sixth
fret with my third finger.
And I'm using really a grab [Fm] technique to get that sound.
So that's 4-3-2 with my thumb, first, and middle finger there.
[B] That chord is actually an [Fm] F minor.
Bass [G] player is riding over a G [Gb] while that chord is happening.
Actually through all of [C] those chords.
So again, it sounds [Fm] like that's [C]
[Am] a C chord.
So that's 4-3-2 in the fifth fret with a flat finger.
F [Fm] minor,
[C]
[Db] F minor to C.
The next part is a [D] D7 chord.
My middle finger is on the fourth fret.
Third finger is on the fifth fret.
And my first finger is on the [E] third fret.
So that's 4-3-2.
This entire phrase is played on the fourth, third, and second string.
So we started [Bb] F [Fm] minor down to a
[C] C chord, [Db] down to D7.
[D] Take a good look at that.
Moving from [A] the D7 to a flat finger in the third fret, third finger [Gb] in the fifth [F] fret.
And that gives me an F, C, and a D chord.
Again, [G] all that is over a G note.
[Db]
[Fm] [C]
And then that repeats.
[Db] So the whole front end of the song and the first verse is over that same progression.
Take it with me nice and slow.
1-2-3 [Fm] and
[C]
[Am] [D]
[F] One more [Fm] time.
3 and [C] C, A, [Am]
[D] D7.
[F]
Practice [B] that with the song as this recording opened up.
[Am]
[C] Now after that last part, you're going to go into a power chord C [Bb] down to a B flat.
Now I'm catching the fifth, fourth, and third [B] here.
So [C] that's 1-2-3-4.
C, [Bb] C, B flat, down [F] to F chord with an A in the bass.
That's an open A ringing.
[Bb] So again, that [C] sounds like C, [Bb] down B flat, [F] A flat.
Then you've got an [Ab] A flat to [G] an open G.
And then back [C] to C.
[Bb] [F]
[Ab] [C]
All of that on the fifth, fourth, and third.

And that gives me an F, C, and a D chord.
