The Band - Levon & Garth Backstage Jam + Sonny Boy Williamson Stories chords
Start Jamming...
[E] She bought a dollar, go to beauty shop, he honked his horn, she began to talk.
She said, take me there.
Right around the block, you know I'm just going down to the beauty shop.
[F#] If I [G] had a sock, [A] going to start me talking.
[Em] [A]
I tell them every [E] night, we're going [B] to break up this signifying,
[A] somebody's got [E] to go.
We played with Sonny Boy Williamson, just, you know, I got to meet him.
I'd heard of him all my life, of [G#] course.
But [F#] we went down, we heard that he'd just come back from England, playing with the Rolling
Stones and the [E] Animals, a few English groups.
He was over there and they treated him so good.
Man had to be in his seventies.
[B] [E] We went to look him up, down on Yazoo Street.
[N] He took us to a booze camp.
We played with him, drank some moonshine.
They'd sell it, a dollar for a half a pint.
Half a pint would wipe out all four of us.
We'd just be sitting there, sipping it, everything was normal.
Playing good music.
There was an 11 year old kid that came out and played drums on a cardboard box with two
sticks that was wonderful.
It was great.
But before the night was out, I think the police interrupted us and said, you know,
what are you white boys doing?
You know, these black boys and, you know, leave on set.
These fellas are from Canada.
Maybe this is my fault.
And [G#m] they just said, well, I bet [D] your family's going to be proud.
You know, [N] I heard someone else say, well, what would you like us to do?
And he said, get out of town.
So we got out of town.
Good God.
Son of a boy, man.
Ain't never been one, carried two of them [F#] case knives, them long handled [N] cases.
And he'd get that blade, you could shave with them, [F#] some of them,
if you just had one in your pocket.
[F] And he'd put [F#] a kitchen mat, a black off half of a kitchen mat, and stick it [N] under.
And it had switch blades back then.
So it would hold that tip of that knife blade just an eighth of an inch,
quarter of an inch out of its [A] handle.
You know, and [D#] Sonny Boy would be backing up, begging and pleading this case.
And saying, [G#] I ain't got no money, I ain't got no [G] money.
And all of a sudden, to show him his money, he would get ahold [F] of that
and catch the tip of that blade [A] on the edge of his pocket [F] when he'd come out with it.
And [F#] James Cotton is who that is.
James got a few other funny [F] ones too to go with it.
[F#] And he'd pull that damn thing out and catch that on [D] the tip of his pocket
[F] and just like [D] that.
And all of a sudden he said, sometime he'd cut his pocket half off.
[F] He said, boy, he'd [F#] reach out there and just touch the son of a bitch like that
and, boy, there he'd beat him like a razor.
He said, boy, and [G] bastards would start giving some [F] slack then.
[E] He said, you know, that's when he'd get bad.
Now, come on, you want to talk some shit?
You know, and just pop him with that thing like that.
He did big jabs too.
[F] He put the fear of God in them son of bitches around Southeast Arkansas.
[E] Bad ones too.
Boy, if they got the word that Sonny Boy was going to cut their ass,
they'd leave town because they [D#] knew he wasn't shitting.
Their ass was cut.
