[E] Howdy, folks.
Now the band of heathens are up first on this one [D] with a debut performance of [A] Green Grass of California.
[A] Here are co-frontman Ed Gjerde and Gordy Quist [E] with the story behind the song.
It's a little smoky in the studio.
The record is [A] done.
It's mastered.
[D] I think the way it's going to go next year is [A] that we're going to be putting out like
a [E] seven-inch single for Record Store Day.
I don't know if that's in the middle of [D] April sometime.
[C#m] One of the songs we're going to be playing today called Green [E] Grass of California is
going to be on that.
We're going to do a little [G] like accompanying EP [A] with that.
It's going to be like four or five [E] songs.
We booked a day in the studio with [D] this guy named Tim Easton [C#m] a few months back.
[E] We were going to cut a song with him, backing [G] him as his band, and then we [A] were going to
cut our song.
[E] I had this idea for this song called Green Grass of California that would be [D] kind of
the story of marijuana [A] as it's changed [D] to become this [E] high-powered nuclear genetically
[D] engineered concoction that it is now, all the medical stuff, compared to what it used to be.
[A] I thought that was kind [E] of funny.
I tossed the idea to Ed.
I was like, hey man, check this out.
What do you think about this first song?
Ed [D] went for a walk and came [C#m] back with this idea pretty fully put together.
[G#] We stayed up one night in a hotel [A] room, kind of finishing the song.
[E] Then two days later, we were in the studio with Tim.
He was [D] supposed to sing harmonies on our [A] song, but he wanted some edibles.
[F#m] [G] He ended up strangely getting way too high and had to go home early.
It was kind of perfect for [E] that song.
It kind of went how it should in the studio, I guess, when we were cutting it.

[A] [G] [D]
[A] [B] [A]
[D] [D] [G] [A]
[D] Pacific [A] breeze so gentle and so kind
[G] When your [A] eyes are red, [D] spinning in your head
[Em] Remember, it's only [A] in your mind
[D] Then came the strongest of single props
Couldn't hold enough to keep on bending
Seen no counting [A]
time
Up and down the [B] [A] PCH
From the Black Sand Beach to the Redwood Gate
They engineered a strongest [D] strain of kind
[A] [G] Oh, the green, [A] green grass of [D] California
[G] Pacific breeze so [A] gentle and so [D] kind
When your [B] eyes are red, [D] spinning in your head
[Em] Remember, it's only in [A] your mind
[G] We used to [A] roll up [D] another, hand another
[G] Don't boat our brother yet, I know
[B]
Now [A] a smaller stash will cost [G] you twice the [Em] cash
Half as much will lift you [A] to a new time zone
[G] Oh, the green, green [D] grass of California
[G] Pacific breeze [A] so gentle and so [D] kind
When your [A] eyes are red, [D] spinning in your head
[E] Remember, [A] it's only in your mind
[G] When your eyes are [A] red, so [D] heavy [D] in your head
[Em] Remember, it's [D] only in your mind
[Em] Remember, [A] [B] it's only in your [D] mind
