Hey, what's up you guys?
Marty Schwartz here with [N] Marty Music.
Now we're going to break down Norwegian Wood by The Beatles.
And also a huge thank you and shout out to Gibson for letting me teach this to you on
this beautiful J45 acoustic.
Now you can get this exact Gibson model right from their website or any other amazing Gibson
that they're making.
Check out the link in the description below.
And now let's learn the tune.
All right, so we're going to do capo on the second fret.
It's going to revolve around a [E] D chord.
And it's in 6 [N]-8, so think 1-2-3-4 [B]-5-6, 1-2 [F#m]-3-4-5 [E]-6.
[F#m]
[E] [D] [E]
And what we're going to do is we're going to think of a D, and we're going to do a little
lick around it with our pinky and index.
So ba-da-da-da-da, ba-da-da-da, [D] ba-da [E]-da-da.
So the ba-da-da is, think of it as a C chord, even though it's going to be a lick.
It'll help to think of it that way.
So now while [B] we're trying to keep as much of the D shape as possible, we're going to
play this melody.
[F#m] [G#] [F#m]
[E] [D] [F#m] [B]
But we're also going to add some bits of the strumming.
So let's get that lick.
From the D chord, it's that second fret G, [E] [B]
[A] [D] [B] and you're going to hammer up to the 4 with your pinky.
So bum-da-da, then [A] open G, [G#]
and then fourth fret D with the [B] pinky.
So [F#] [B] [A] [G#]
[F#]
then second fret on the D with your index.
[E] So [F#] you're leaving that part of the D shape for that.
So [B]
[A] [G#] [F#] [A]
after that second [C] fret, it's the [F#] open G, [A] [E]
and then 4-0 on the [F#m] D.
So [F#] [A] put [G#] [E]
[B] that all together.
[A] [G#] [F#m] [F#]
[A] [G#] [E]
[B] One more time.
I screwed it up a little.
[A] [G#]
[F#] [A] [G#]
[E] Now form the C [D] chord, but just hit that root [A] and the open [D] G.
[A]
And [C#] then finally, [B] middle finger's going to leave and hit the second fret A [C#] to open [B] from
[D] [F#m] [B] [D] the C chord.
[A] [C#] [B]
[E] And that open A is part of a D chord.
[B] [E]
[B] [E]
[D] [F#m] [E]
So now it's
[A] [E]
going to help when you grab [C] that fourth fret of the [N] D with your pinky to get
your index back down [E] for a D.
So now when I hit that note of that melody, you can get the rest of the D chord in there.
And then, da-da-da.
Then [C#m]
[N] we're adding that part of the [E] melody.
[A] So I'm strumming it like [E] a D chord.
[A] [E]
[N] Don't worry about the high E or getting the whole chord, but you want to try and get the
G and B in [E] there at least.
[A] [E]
Da-da-da, with that shape still.
Da-da-da.
[F#m]
Then, da [G#]-da [E]-da.
D chord.
So you've got that.
[F#] [A] [E]
So check it out.
[A] [E]
[F#] [A] [E]
Then the C [D] chord,
[C#] [E]
and that open A is a D chord as [D] well.
[A] [E]
[A] [E] [D]
[A] [E]
Let me try it super [F#m] slow now.
[E]
[A]
[E]
[F#m] [E]
[D] [A]
[E]
[D]
[A] [E] [F#m] [Em]
D minor now.
So the other section, we go to a D minor.
I tend to play it with my pinky on the third of the B, like that.
No different than that.
I'm [E] used to that.
So [Em] either way, D minor, da-da-da-da-da, [A] G, then back to D [Em] minor.
Now we're going to go [F#m] E minor,
[B] A major.
[E] So E minor to A major, two of the easiest chords [Em] out there.
So D minor, then we [A] go to G, [Em] D minor again, but now E minor.
[F#m]
C minor, Q [B] to the A, and then we're right back [A] to it.
[E]
[F#m] [E] [A] [D]
[E]
[F#m] [E]
[D] [E]
[F#m] [E] [D]
[A] [E]
[A]
[E] [F#m]
[E]
[D] [A] [E]
All right, there was the lesson.
I hope you guys had a good time.
Once again, big thank you to Gibson Guitar
