[D]
They asked me to play a cover song for this little [F]
session.
I barely know my own songs.
[D]
I did attempt to [F#] learn a Lady Gaga [D] song.
I was born that way, but [F] I haven't learned all [D] the verses yet.
So I shan't attempt that, but perhaps next time.
But of [C#] course, the band that did it for me,
[N] the band that did it for many, many people was, of course, The Beatles.
My father first played with The Beatles.
We had a music shop in Scotland when I lived there as a child.
[F] And my father first played with The Beatles and said,
these boys are different, they'll go somewhere.
And so they blew my mind.
And I said to my father, I said, can I be in The Beatles, Daddy?
[D]
And he said, no, you can't be in The Beatles, no.
I said, okay, can I have a pony?
[N] He says, you can have a pony.
[D]
[Gm] I never got to play in The Beatles and I never got a pony.
But I did play with Ringo for a couple of tours in Ringo's band.
In [D] the last few years.
That was very exciting.
Sometimes he would come into my dressing [F] room and
he would say, what's going on in here?
Cuz he was lonely in his dressing room.
There was nothing in there except for big bowls of fruit, [Dm] a bit of broccoli.
He'd say, yeah, tell us a story.
I'd go, me?
Tell you a story?
You're Ringo, you've got all the stories.
He goes, yeah, but I know all my stories.

I once had a girl, or should I say, [C] she [D] once had me.
She showed me her room, isn't it good?
No, we don't work.
[A] [D]
[C] [G] [D]
[Dm] She asked me to stay and she told me to sit [G] anywhere.
[Dm] So I looked around and I noticed there [Em] wasn't a chair.
[A]
[D] I sat on the rug, biding my time, drinking her wine.
We talked until two, and then she said, it's time for bed.
[A] [D]
[C] [G] [D]
[G] [D]
[G] [D]
[Dm] She told me she worked in the morning, I [G] started to laugh.
[D]
[Dm] I told her I didn't, crawled up to sleep [Em] in the bath.
[A]
[D] And when I awoke, I was alone, desperate.
So I lit a fire, isn't it good?
No, [G] we [D] don't work.
