This is a quick follow-up to my tutorial on Alvin Lee's the bluest blues
where I covered George Harrison's rather
[Am] beautiful slide guitar solo and
But some people wanted to know what the chord progression was what the chord
Sequence in the song was so I thought I'd just lay that out really quick now
There's some improvisations that go on quick little ad-libs and stuff
So I'll try to include some of those as well kind of explain where they are, but I'll just take it up to
Harrison's slide solo because after that you can pretty much figure out
Any of the little quick ad-libs that you hear in the song if you want to dial it in you know exactly like the recording
So we start out with an a minor seventh
We [Em] move to an e minor seventh
[Dm] D minor seventh [Am] and back to a minor seventh and it's played like so and as always I'll put the tab up on the screen
[Em] [Dm]
[A] [C] [A] [Am]
[Em] [Dm]
[A] [C]
and
That's the intro right there, and then it goes into the first verse
And that's where we start hearing a few little ad-libs, okay, so this is how it goes
From when the vocal starts, so we'll catch one little quick ad-lib in there
Which is really simple to play, but it's really nice and of course this is played twice
Just as in the intro except.
It's got the quick little ad-lib at the end of the first [A] go around here
[Am]
you
[Em] [Dm]
[A] [Am] [D] [Am]
[Em] [Dm]
[A] [C] [Eb] So that would be the first verse okay, so that now brings us to the chorus which is played [F] like so
[C] [G]
[A] [Am] [C]
[F] [C] [G]
[A] [Am] [C]
Now this is actually played on a strat
So I'm just sort of emulating a couple of the little dips and weaves that he does with the bar
But you can listen to the recording and catch that
with the strat of course you'd
And tap the bar and get a nice little little sweep up to that double stop now
that's the basic chord structure of the song itself, and there's some other little ad-libs that pop up in the
tune as it progresses along a cool one that I like [D] is
[Am]
That's just a nice little fill, and I'm sure you can spot that in the recording
[C] [A] And most of the fills most of the ad-libs that you're going to hear are
always going to be at the tail of that a minor seventh chord whether it's on the verse or whether it's coming off of
the chorus and into George's solo, and those are basically
The ad-libs that you're going to hear the little improvisations this one happens [Am] quite a lot [G] or
[Am] that [D] [Am]
[Fm] type of thing and it's pretty easy to hear again inside the recording and
The other thing that I want to mention is the other chord progression that's in there
So George Harrison plays his slide solo over this basic [A] chord progression
[Am] [G]
[F] [C]
[G] [A] [Am] [G]
[F] [C]
[G] [Am] Just a circle of that for his solo and then Alvin Lee
extends the chord progression slightly by adding an E suspended and an E
7th at the end of the chord progression so he actually solos over this
[E] [Am]
[E] [G] [E] [F]
[E] [Am]
[G] [F]
[A] [E] [Am]
And
That becomes the cycle for him to play his amazing solo over which might make a good video someday all right
Thanks again for watching
