[E] Hey [Dbm] everybody, welcome to the [Bm] commons.
I'm here with Sarah Kroger [B] and we're gonna listen to [Bm] the king of [G] love my shepherd is we'll be right [N] back
[D]
[Em]

[D]
[Bm]
[D]
[Em] Sarah it's great [B] to have you with us again
It's funny to be on this side of [F] the of the interview
[Ab] [Gb]
[Fm] Hey, so
[B] Your [Eb] your new song the [Bm] king of love my shepherd is
[F] [Bb] Tell me about tell me about [F] the the [B] him
What what do you [F] really love about this him?
[Bb] You know when I was planning for this [Eb] [B] album my latest album
I [Fm] really just desired to cover [Ab] a hymn for some reason
I think [F] it's because [E] a lot of times recently I've been [Eb] using hymns at youth [F] liturgies
and
[E] I've always wanted to kind [Bb] of
Do my [Gb] own [E] version of a hymn in a [Gb] contemporary way and because I think [B] the hymns are [E] so [G] important are so [B] beautiful
because they've been [Eb] around for hundreds of years and
[G] Some even longer [B] than that and they [Fm] represent our church
Just the [B] ancient and the beautiful [Eb] part of our church the traditional side
And I [E] love being able to bring those into a [F] contemporary kind of liturgy or just into a [Eb] place where I can really
Share with [E] the young people of the [Eb] church just the [Fm] beauty of what [Bb] we have.
Oh, yeah, it's a beautiful him and
[Eb] Tell me how do you how you brought it [Gb] into?
Today so [D] to speak how [Bb] did you give it a little bit of a [E] new life?
[B] yeah, well Sarah [Bb] Hart and I actually co-wrote it together [B] and
[G] We decided to arrange it [E] a little bit different
[B] Just with different kind of chord structure underneath [G] it to kind of give it a different [E] flair
but also we added a refrain to the song [Abm] and the biggest [E] reason why we did this is because
[Fm] The king of love my shepherd is like when you think about [G] the shepherd.
It's a very [F] personal
Imagery the shepherd and the sheep and so with the refrain of the song
It just says [Eb] how could my heart turn [Fm] away Jesus?
I love you.
[B] And that is a very
Personal it's kind of like coming from the [F] sheep's perspective
Not that I'm calling people sheep, but it's from [G] the sheep's the [E] lost sheep's perspective
like if you know that Jesus is your [F] shepherd, how could your heart ever turn away and
Because we have the Lord [Abm] who is merciful and who is forgiving and who [B] is constantly pursuing us and [E] relentlessly [Eb] pursuing us in our lives
We kind of wanted to share that within the refrain of the song.
[Bm] So that's how we [C] came up with it
Where do you you know?
I I love especially Psalm 23 and it's got a [F] lot of roots in that in that Psalm and
[Bm] how it
[A]
this this hymn [B] when I was
[G] About a month ago.
I had a friend of mine who
Passed away and that was [Bb] she wanted [F] it at her funeral [G] and
But it's amazing like [Ab] you're using it at your teen liturgies.
How do you use it in teen liturgies?
[E] What what where would you put [Ab] that?
Where would you find that?
[G] Yeah in the liturgy?
I usually [F] place it [G] at the preparation of [Bb] gifts point or for a [F] communion hymn because it is
[Gb] just that [Eb] imagery of the shepherd [Bb] and us receiving [Eb] the Lord in [E] the Eucharist as our shepherd [G] and
[B] so those are kind of the places that I would put it as a [G] communion meditation [Bb] even or
[B] [E] at the preparation of gifts [Fm] just preparing yourself [E] to
[Eb] Welcome Jesus the shepherd the lamb
[B] As I was [Ab] listening to that you say the [G] wedding feast.
It's [B] like it could be a wedding song, too
[G] Yeah, I could use it for weddings or [F] funerals or [Ab]
all of it and all different [B] kinds.
So why hey, let's go listen to it
Let's go.
Can you play it for us?
