Hey guitar friends, I hope you're all doing great.
Today I'm gonna show you how to play
the Cowboy Rides Away by George Strait.
Cool little song with a cool little intro lick in there
that I'm gonna show you how to play.
I'll also show you the chords and the strumming pattern.
It's a pretty easy song here,
so we can go ahead and have you learning it really quickly.
Okay, we're gonna go ahead and learn
the little intro lead first.
So we're gonna start out on the third string.
So here's that for you.
[Am]
[F#] [G]
Third string, fourth [E] string, [F#] [D]
fifth [C] string.
That's the C chord.
Then back to the third string, [D] [A] fourth [F#m] string,
[G] third string, [E]
fourth string.
[F#] [D] [E] [C]
[B] [G] We're [C] just bending [B] here on the fifth string
[G] and then ending on the open third string.
[C] So I'll play through that one more time for you,
a little bit slower.
[G] [A]
[F#m] [G] [E] [F#] [D]
[C]
[Am] [F#m] [G] [E]
[F#] [D] [E] [C] [B] [G]
Okay, and then we're ending on the G chord.
If you're not gonna do that lead part,
[N] you can just strum those chords there for the intro
and that [G] would look like this.
[C]
[Em] [D]
[G]
Okay, and strumming pattern, I'm just doing a simple
down, up, down, up, down, up strumming pattern.
So go ahead and go into the first verse
and play that for you.
So here's the first verse for you.
I knew the stakes were high right from [C] the start
[D] When she dealt the cards I dealt [G] my heart
Now I just found a game that I [C] can't play
[D] This is where the cowboy rides [G] away
Okay, and we're gonna do the same thing for the chorus also.
Same chords, same strumming pattern.
Here's the chorus for you.
And my heart is sinking like the setting [C] sun
[D] Setting on the things I [G] wish I'd done
It's time to say goodbye to [C] yesterday
This
[Em] [D] is where the cowboy [G] rides away
