Hey guys, I'm gonna do a quick guitar lesson for Angela by the Lumineers.
To start off,
you put the capo on the fourth fret.
Next, there are three chords you need to know for the verse.
The first one is G.
You play that with middle finger on the third fret of low E,
[D#] index on the second of A,
ring on [B] the third fret of B, and then pinky on the third fret of high E.
[C#] Now the next chord is D minor.
You play that with middle finger on the second fret of G,
ring on the [F#m] third of B, and
index on the first of high E.
[N] Then the last chord is C.
You put your ring finger on the third [E] fret of A,
middle on the second of D, and then you put your index on the first fret of B.
And now for the strumming [B] pattern, you go down up up up down up down up up up down up.
[G#m] So I recommend just playing that slowly, even without chords, just down up up up down up down up.
Up up down up [B] until you get it.
[E] [B] When you left this town, [F#m] let the windows down [E] and the wilderness inside.
[B] Let the exits [F#m] pass, all the time glass [E] and the road and sky alight.
[B] And the next part is very similar.
You just add A minor to the end.
So you play that with your middle finger on the second [G#] fret of D,
ring on the second [C#] of G, and index on the first [C#m] of B.
[B] The strangers in [F#m] this town,
[E] they raise you up [C#m] just to cut you down.
[B] Oh, Angela, [F#m] it's a long time coming.
[E]
[G#m] So the last part is G, D minor, A minor, and E minor.
[D#] And to play E minor, you put your middle finger on the second fret of A, and
[G#m] ring on the second fret of D.
[B] Home alone.
[C#m] [G#m]
So G and E minor are [B] full phrases.
[E] And D minor and A minor are half phrases.
[G#m] [B]
[F#m] [G#m] [B] Home alone.
[C#m] [G#m] [B] Home alone.
[C#m] [G#m] [N] So I got a bunch of comments saying I should play more of the song, that it'll be helpful to put all the pieces together.
[B] So I'm gonna play verse, bridge, and then the chorus.
And you've all the lights [F#m] lit up green and white, [E] and the city's on the sides.
[B] But you held your course to some distant war in [E] the corner of your mind.
For [B] the second time [F#m] around,
[E] the only love that I ever found.
[B] Angela, it's a long time coming.
[E] [B] [C#m] [G#m]
[B] [G#m]
The part at the end that [C] goes vacancy, hotel rooms,
it's the same chords as the verse.
