[B] [Em] Hi, and welcome to [D] my acoustic guitar tutorial on Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones.
The guitar is tuned standard E, A, D, [G] G, B, and I'm not going to try to show you how to play it exactly like the record.
What I'm going to try to do is to show you an easy way that you can play it that I came up with using basic chords.
Our chords are going to be E minor, [Em]
D major, [D]
G, [G]
and [Gb] B7.
[B]
We'll start with the intro, [Em] which will sound something like this.
[G] [Bm]
[E] [Eb] [E] [Gb]
[Eb]
[Em] In order to play that, we're going to strum an E minor chord and use that as the first note of the melody, like this.
That's our open E with the chord.
Second [Gb] fret on the E string, third [G] fret, fifth [D] fret, third [G] fret, [Gb] second, [E] open, open, fourth fret on the [Eb] B string, open, [E] high E, second [Gb] fret, [E] open, back to the fourth fret, [Ebm]
and then we'll [Em] play this.
[Eb] [Gb] [E]
[Eb]
That's on the B string, second [Db] fret, [Eb] fourth fret, fifth [E] fret, [Gb] second fret on the high E string, back to the fifth fret [E] on the B string, [Eb] fourth fret, [Db] second fret, and end on the [Eb] fourth fret.
Now you can pick that like this, [E] [Bm] [E] [Eb]
[Em] or you can do hammer-on pull-offs like [Eb] this.
[Gb] [Eb]
[Gb] For the hammering and pulling off, you're going to play this.
[E] [B] [E] [Db] [Eb]
[Dbm] So we're starting here at the second fret and hammering on to the fourth fret and fifth fret.
[Eb] [Em]
Then we're going to play the second fret on the [Gb] high E string and then start up at the fifth [Ebm] fret and [E] do this.
[Eb] [Dbm] [Eb]
[E] So we're pulling off of the fifth fret [Eb] to the fourth fret and then down to the second fret, [Gb] like that.
[Eb]
[Dbm] And then we're going to land on the [Eb] fourth fret.
[Gb] [Eb]
And that's our intro.
[Em] For the verses, we're going to strum an E minor chord and move [E] to a B7 chord.
[B]
And here's our strumming [Em] pattern.

then we go back to our strumming pattern with E minor.

and then we'll [Em] play this.
