[C] Edelweiss, Edelweiss,
[G] Every [Em] morning [Am] you greet [D] me.
Hi, and welcome to my tutorial for an easy way to play Edelweiss
from the motion picture, The Sound of Music on acoustic guitar.
The guitar is [E] tuned standard, E, A, D, [G] G, B, E.
[Em]
We're going to try to make [D] the sound as good as we can,
but I'm going to show you how to play it in the easiest way that I know how.
We'll start with the intro, which sounds like this.
[G] [D]
[N] We're starting with a simple G chord by placing a finger on the 3rd fret on the high E string
and strumming from the D [G] string.
Then we'll come back to the D string and [D] play it three times.
We'll do that twice.
[G] [D]
[E] Then we'll move [N] to an A minor slash D chord
played by placing a finger on the 1st fret B string
and the 2nd fret A string and strumming from the D string.
[Am] Then we'll play the D [D] string three times.
Then we'll move to a normal D chord, play it once,
and then we'll play the D string three times.
[G] So that was
[Am] [D]
And then we'll go into the verses of the song.
[G]
In order to play the verses, we'll play a G chord.
G
Vice, a [D] D, then a [G] G, and then a C.
[C]
[G] Then G, [Em] E minor, [Am] A minor, and [D] then D.
[G] For the second verse, G, [D] D, [G] G, [C] C.
[D] D, U, D,
[G] G.
[N] Next we'll go to a short bridge and it'll [D] start with a D chord.
Blossom of snow, another D chord.
May you [G] bloom, G, and grow.
Then [C] we'll play C, bloom, [E] and grow.
[A] A7, and then [D] we'll play D twice, forever.
[G] Next we'll move to our chorus and we'll need to play a G chord.
A G7 formed this way.
[F#] [N] That chord is made by placing a finger on the 3rd fret high E string
and one on the 3rd fret D string
and strumming from the D string, [G] that's G7.
[B] Then a C, [C] and then an A minor 7 flat 5 played this [A] way.
In order to play our A minor 7 flat 5,
we're going to be strumming from the A string down to the B string like this,
holding [F#] down the D string, the 1st fret, and the B string, the 1st fret.
We're not playing the high E [A] string.
And we're going to finish by going [G] to a G chord, a D [D] chord.
[G]
[D] Now let's play through the entire piece to see how this works out.
[Dm] [D]
[G] [D] Little [G] rice, [C] little [G] rice.
