[D] Come up to [Bb] me you
Tell you I'm sorry
[F]
You don't know [C] how lovely you are
[C] Hey everybody, it's James here from good guitarist calm [N] and in today's lesson
We're gonna show you how to play the scientist by coldplay now
We're gonna show you how to play it exactly like it is on the recording
That means we're gonna be using some bar chords and it's gonna be a little bit more on the intermediate side
So we're gonna start out by showing you the chords that we can use and then we're gonna show you a strumming pattern
We can combine that and we can play through each of the sections of the song
Nice and slowly and if you've watched some of our lessons before and you find that you enjoy learning with us
I'd really appreciate it
If you could take the time to help support us and that can be as simple as just hitting subscribe
Liking the video and leaving a comment.
Anyways, here are the chord shapes.
We're gonna be using today
So we have a couple basic ones.
We have D [Dm] minor and
C
And you can find both of those in our free ebook.
It's available on our website free to all our [Bb] subscribers
There's a link down below other than that.
We have a couple bar chords.
We have B flat and
We have [G] F going to F sus 2 now, that's really one chord for F
We're gonna play it a little bit differently.
Normally we [F] play it like a full bar chord
Or if you look in our ebook, we actually have like a little F chord
Just in case you [G] want something a little bit easier, but we're gonna be playing it like this
[F]
So the thumb is over the top
[C] [F]
And we're kind of grabbing the middle four strings like that.
That's the most important part of this shape
[A] And for F sus 2 all we have to do is just lift [C] our middle finger
[G] If it's too much to grab the thumb [Ab] over the top, you could just do it like [F] this, too
[C] See it sounds [Bm] totally fine and here's the strumming pattern that we can use with those chords
[C]
So that looks a bit long, but it's actually quite simple for the most part.
We're just doing down root
That's kind of the feel for the whole song down
root and
When I say root, I kind of just mean the lowest notes of the chord
You could play just the root
But if you play a couple strings and just kind of aim for the low area
So [G] we go down root three times
[C]
Two and then we play down down up
so [Eb] practice that down root and just [C] get the basic feel just
Over and over again, and when you're ready just count out three of those
one two
Three then down down
So [N] we have all the tools that we need to play the verse now
I'm gonna play it slowly if you want you can try to play along right now
Or you can just watch me demonstrate it and then you can rewind the video and play along yourself afterwards
Here we go
one two three four
[Dm]
[Bb]
[F]
[C]
[D]
[Bb]
[F]
[C]
[Bm] [B] So the chorus [N] is just two chords for the most part
It's just B flat and F and we do that a couple times and then we're gonna play the C chord and to the C chord
We're gonna do one little thing to make it sound like the recording.
This is what it's gonna end up sounding like
[C]
[C] So all I'm doing there I'm adding my pinky finger right here
[F] that's the third fret of [C] the D string and
Then letting it go that makes a C sus four chord [Eb] and I'm doing it on the and of four
And I'm not gonna play the normal strumming pattern as I do it instead.
I'm just gonna stick to down root
So it's gonna be something like this
[C] one and two and three
Four and
So on that very last stroke I add my pinky then I take it off right away and I do another measure of C
But with the normal strumming pattern so really slowly.
[F] Here's the whole thing
[C] one
two
three four
one two
three
[N] Aside from that we're just gonna be strumming chords.
So let's try that together
one two Three four
[Bb]
[F]
[C]
[Bb]
[F]
[C]
[C]
[Bm] [D] So there's an instrumental outro in this tune and it's really straightforward after the first four measures
It's just gonna be the same chord progression over and over again.
Anyways, let's try that [E] together now
one two three four
[F]
[Bb]
[Dm]
[F]
[Dm]
[F]
[Dm]
[F]
