Now we're going to have a short chat with a guest who's going to be on in just a moment.
Mr Tim Rose!
Yeah!
[Ab] In a moment you're going to be doing the song Hey Joe.
Yeah.
Where does that song come from?
Actually it's an old Appalachian song that I heard from a very old singer when I was young.
I added a couple of verses to it and changed the melody somewhat,
but the basic core of it, the Hey Joe I Shot Your Woman Down,
I heard from this guy in Florida back when I was like three [G] years old or something like that.
Now of course it was Jimmy Hendrix's first British hit.
How did he get the song?
Chas Chandler, who was his manager, who a lot of your viewers will know,
had been with the Animals and Chas had bought Jimmy to England to,
ostensibly to record and do that.
He was in America to take care of some business.
He heard Hey Joe at a discotheque and went out and bought it the next day.
He went back to Hendrix and said,
this is your first single and Jimmy said,
no bloody way and Chas looked at him and said,
well here's your passport and here's a ticket, go home.
Hendrix said, well I was only kidding and they actually did it.
According to Noel, they put the record on in the rehearsal studio
and they just copied the version and the rest is history for Jimmy.
Well thanks very much.
Could I ask you to invite you to step to the stool here?
If I don't we've wasted a lot of time here haven't we?
It would have been, it would have all been about nothing,
which is not what our show is.
So once you're comfortable I shall just sort of chitter chatter away like this.
And once you're comfortable you can give me the nod, we'll just walk [C] casually like this.
[G] Well, the [N] drums sound fine and I think I'm ready to go.
In that case, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Mr.
Tim Rose.
