I'm here with Todd Rundgren.
Todd, you're doing some some interesting material on tonight's show including a song that you didn't write.
Yeah, it's kind of a surprise that we'll
that we'll be exposing later in the show, but
it's something about something written by my
one of my favorite
Composing teams Gilbert and Sullivan and we don't want to divulge your details.
We'd say no more.
Yeah, one of those but the next song you wrote for a very specific reason.
Yeah, well along the same line I've been involved in a musical production which is
The musical version of Joe Wharton's Up Against It being produced by Joe Papp in the Public Theater
Which was commissioned by the Beatles, but now has nothing to do absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the Beatles
If it ever did have anything to really with any they paid for it.
Yeah, they they paid for a rough draft
but in any case we own it now and
And it's in production now at the Public Theater
Next they say it's gonna move.
This is one of these Broadway terms.
It's gonna move.
It's a mover got legs
under the auspices of
Joe Papp Joe Papp.
Yeah, I think I mentioned that and it's enormous auspices.
It's yeah
Big auspices like this Cool boy
Well, please by all means let's thank you very much.
We're gonna do a different song though right at this juncture.
This will be
Something from that show and it's called parallel [F#] lines
[E] [A] Kindred [E] [A] [F#]
[B] [E] [A] [E] [A] [E] [A] [F#]
[A] spirits moving [E] along the [A] spiral [F#]
[A] I can see
[G#m] [C#] It's too [G#m] great a fall and I [C#] can't reach you to pull me higher
[F] But [E] I don't seem to get much closer
or any [F#] more
[A] What would you tell me if I could hear you speaking
[F#] [A]
You could touch me
[G#m] How would I know the feeling?
[C#] I just can't imagine
But I try to do it anyway.
[E] I wish I was moving faster.
I wish you'd drift back
But it just [F#] wasn't meant [E] to
[A#] [C#m] Happen very soon.
I'll have [G#m] to
Some [E] things [F#] never come together
[D#m]
[B] [D#m] [G#m] And you can't turn back [E] there is [F#] never any starting
[D#m]
[B] [E] It's [A] a challenge gotta make [E] myself [A] remember
Facing the truth.
[G#m] Well, that doesn't mean surrender
[C#] What is bravado and how much is a false of will?
[E] I know that the world is full of opposites that attract
But unless we know the [F#] physics
[E] Very soon.
We'll have [G#m] to
Face the fight
Some things [F#] never come together
[D#m]
[B] It's [G#] [F#] running on forever
[G#m] And you can't turn back there is never any [F#] starting over
[D#m] That [B] [G#] is [F#] never [B] to cross over
So I send [F#] you the gift of [B] empathy
[F#] If you'd once in your life acknowledge [G#m] me
I [D#m] wish [E] [F#] you would like to see me
I'm so [E] terribly
[F#] Good when I think of [G#m] me
I think of me
[E] [F#]
[A] Can't face the truth
It means that we must [F#] surrender
[A] Understanding [G#m] won't satisfy the hunger
[C#] It whittles away at the destiny we fulfill
[G#m] And [E] like an animal running [E] wild
You can't call it back
[F#]
And it's just gonna make it harder
When it's finally time [G#m] to
Face the fight
Some things never [B] come together
It's [G#m] running on forever
And you can't turn back [E] there is never [F#] any starting [E] [B] over
That [C#m] is [G#m] never to cross over
[F#] [B] Never do [A] [B] crossover [D#m] [C#m] Parallel lines
[F#] Never do [B] crossover
[E] [F#] [B] [N]
