A fellow I used to know whose name was Henry, [B] only to give you an idea of what an individualist
he was, he spelled it H-E-N-3-R-Y.
The three was silent, you see.

Henry was financially
independent, having inherited his father's tar and feather business, and _ was therefore
able to devote his full time to such intellectual pursuits as writing.
I particularly remember
a heartwarming novel of his about a young necrophiliac who finally achieved his boyhood
ambition by becoming coroner. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ The rest of you can look it up when you get home. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ In addition
to writing, he indulged in a good deal of philosophizing.
Like so many contemporary
philosophers, he especially enjoyed giving helpful advice to people who were happier
than he was. _ _ _
_ _ _ _ One particular bit of advice which I recall, which is leading up this whole
dreary story, is something he said once before they took him away to the Massachusetts State
Home for the Bewildered. _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ Life is like a sewer. _ _ _
What you get [Em] out of it depends on [N] what you
put into it. _

_ It's always seemed to me that this is precisely the sort of dynamic, positive
thinking _ that we so desperately need today in these trying times of crisis and universal
brouhaha.
And so with this in mind, I have here a modern, positive, dynamic, uplifting
song in the tradition of the great old revival hymns.
This one might more accurately be termed
a survival hymn.
It goes like, [A] _ _
[C] _ _ _ _ _ _ [A#] _ _
_ _ [C] _ _ [Fm] When you attend the funeral, [C] it is sad to think that [E] sooner
or later [Fm] those you love [C#] will do the [C] same for you. _ _
_ _ And you may have thought it tragic [C] not
to mention other [Fm] adjectives to think of [G] all the weeping they [C] will do.
But don't you worry,
no more [G#] ashes, no more sackcloth, and [F#] an armband made of black cloth will someday never more
[F] adorn a sleeve.
For if the bomb that drops on you [A#] gets your friends and neighbors [G] too,
_ there'll [C] be nobody [E] left behind to grieve.
And [C#] we will [F] all go together when [A#] we go.
_ What a comforting
fact that [C] is to know.
_ _ [F] Universal bereavement, [A#] an inspiring achievement.
Yes, we all [E] will go
together when [F] we go.
[C#] We [F#] will all go together when [B] we go.
All suffused with an incandescent [C#] glow. _
No one [F#] will have the endurance to [B] collect on his insurance.
Floyds [C#] of London will be loaded when
[F#] they go.
[D] _ For we [G] will all fry together when [F] we fry.

_ Down by the _ _ [F#] old _ _ [B] maelstrom.
_ _ There'll be a storm [G#m] before [C#m] the con.
[C] _ _ [Gm] We [F] will all bake together
[A#] when we bake.
_ There'll be [Gm] nobody present [C] at the wake.
With [F] complete participation in [A#] that grand
incineration, [C] nearly three billion hunks of well [F]-done steak.
[C#] _ Oh, we [F#] will all char together when we [B] char. _
And let
there be no moaning of [C#] the bar.
_ Just [F#] sing out a tedium when [B] you see that ICBM and [C#] the party will be calm [F#] as you [D] are. _
_ [C] Oh, we will [G] burn together when we [F] burn.
