We have any Rolling Stones fans here?
Good, here's some Yardbirds songs for you.
[Em]
[N] Do we have anything in particular that we needed to hear tonight before we run out of time?
Blue Moon.
Deep River Blues.
Oh, Blue Moon.
Blue Moon.
Okay, Blue Moon.
Let's see now.
[E]
[Am]
[D] See, I like it in here [G] because it's our lounge room.
[B]
[E] By the way, this guitar [G] was in tune when I bought it.
[N] I just don't know what's going on.
Before I play Blue Moon for you, I want to tell you a little bit about this arrangement.
I was a struggling young [G]
guitar player in the [A] big city in Sydney back in the late 70s.
I was sharing a house with a guy and [G] his partner.
She turned [N] me on to Joni Mitchell and he turned me on to Bebop.
I came to the city from the country, so I knew all the Hank Williams tunes, all the Buck Owens tunes, all the Mel Haggard tunes, all the Bill Atkins tunes, all the Mel Travers tunes.
I wasn't quite sure about Count Basie and people like that.
I was introduced to that music while I was there.
So anyway, I'm starting to get adventurous after being around a few jazz people.
[D] I start trying to work out how to play Blue [N] Moon and moving the bass around, making the bass like a swing bass player.
Well, I'm sitting there going over it and over it and it was going nowhere.
The guy put his head around the corner and he just said,
Why don't you put the bass through the chord changes?
I said, What do you mean?
He said, Do this.
So [C] instead of [B] going,
[A] [G] [F] [Gb] [G] [C]
[B] [G] [F] [Gb] [G] Blue [C] [B] Moon, [D] [G] [F] you saw [G] me standing [C] [B] alone, [A] [G] [F] without [G] a dream [C] in my [B] heart.
[G] Without that, he showed me how [C] to go like this.
[B] Blue Moon, [G] [Fm] [Em] you saw me [Db] standing [C] [Bm] alone, [G] [F] [Ab] without a dream [Am] in my heart.
[G] [Gb] [F] Without that, he showed me how to go like [C] this.
[G] So the bass filled out the chords, then I had to just fill the rest in and I had to figure [N] out how to do that.
So he gave me the idea and then I worked it all out and all of a sudden everyone thought I was a genius.
So, here's the [C] bass [Bm] [G] and the drums.
[Am] [N] Here's the [Em] chords.
[Am]
[Dm] [Ebm] [C]
[Gm] [Em]
[C] [Dm] [C] And here comes Frank D'Amato.
