Hi folks, Doyle Dykes here.
I wanted to just share something with you
This was Eddie Van Halen and me a few years ago.
And if you can tell he's holding up a thumb pick
Made a thumber out of him that day and we had I had these orange thumb picks in my pocket and
And so we were taking a photo and I said, hey, can you would you mind?
Wearing a thumb pick he said, oh no, man, that's cool.
And I gave him my thumb pick and Fred Kelly thumb pick.
I was at a meeting Larry Thomas had put together at Fender and Dave Mason was on the program
Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Don Waas the great producer and
It was just an amazing
Just an amazing day the whole day Don Felder was there on the program
Jimi Hendrix's sister and
And I played and they had us on a panel and we all answered questions and did things and after we did our thing
everybody that I just mentioned
He brought on Eddie Van Halen
And so he was just so highly revered among musicians and as my son Caleb said dad he changed music forever
I mean he did he had he had something different and so I remember when I played that day
And I saw him a little later on and and he said hey man
I never heard anybody play guitar like you play and I said well I take that as a compliment
He said absolutely.
I said well
You know, I said well this song I played was bigger than life.
It's bigger than me and
It how great thou art it definitely isn't about me.
But but when I play something like that, I said, you know, it's really
More of an orchestra, I don't know.
He said you're not playing it like a guitar player
I see it's more of a piano or an orchestra.
He said man, I get it.
I get that.
That's cool
And so coming from Eddie Van Halen, I'm not saying he was saying you're an incredible guitar player
I'm not saying I'm just saying he said it was that I played different said I've never seen anybody play
Like you play the guitar and they think about the millions of people who had never seen anybody play like Eddie Van Halen play
And so what a great loss and I'd like to because of the song
I'd like to play that song in his honor today.

Eddie [Bm] Van Halen, God bless all you folks.
You know, I was playing this very guitar.
I was just thinking about it
This is the one that Ren Ferguson made for me and this had just come out with Guild
When I was there at that meeting with Eddie, you never know where music will take you and the guitar will take you
but that was my
Eddie Van Halen story and we'll all miss him and he was
Well respected musician.
He did so much for the guitar.
Well, God bless you folks.
Thank you
