Yo, [G] it's Tyler Bryant from Tyler [A] Bryant and the Shakedown and I'm here [Em] checking out this
Fender American Original [E] 50 Stratocaster.
[Em] So we're going to see what it does.
[G] [A] [E]
[Em]
[G] [A]
[Em] So as far as the neck is concerned on this guy, we've got a soft V, maple fingerboard
and [E] unlike the [G] original 50 strats, this has a [A] 9.5 inch radius, which makes it [Em] a little
bit easier to play.
You can definitely feel the difference whenever you start to play a [E] little faster.
It's good for [Em] shredding and making chords and stuff.
[G] [A] [B]
[G] [E]
So one of [B] the things you'll notice about this guitar is it's obviously based off of a 50
strat and it's got 59 style pickups in it, which I feel right at home on this because
one of my main guitars at home is an original and so when I took the pickups out to look
at them, they were 59.
Fender has kind of updated them and so it's [N] a nod to the past but it lives here in the
present and I think about some of the great players that played 50 strats like Buddy Holly
or Buddy Guy and when I think about that, [B] I'm thinking about this bridge pickup playing
right back by the bridge, getting that
[Am] [D] [Em]
really jangly in between tone, that kind of thing
as well as the neck pickup, [C#m] beef, [Am] [D] [A]
[C] [D]
[B] and [Am] the middle pickup.
[G]
[A] [A] [G]
[C#] So it's got the classic thing, it's in a [D] new shell and it [Am] sounds good.
True to the original, which I [C] prefer and [Em]
yeah, this is a sweet axe.
[A]
[Em] [G]
[A]
[D] [E]
[C] So when I was a kid, I would go watch [A] guys like Anton Thunderberg, who's this legendary
Texas Blues guy player, or Buddy [Am] Guy, or [A] see videos of Stevie Ray [Em] Vaughan or just like
any of [Am] the legendary strat [A] guys, even like some of Jeff Beck's old strats and you would
always see some [D] of the wear, like where their arms were, where the pitch [D] went and [A] I remember
[Em] rubbing my guitar across the driveway trying to get scratches on it and stuff and it was
coated in polyurethane [E] and it's a lot harder to get through the finish and also the wood
[Am] doesn't breathe quite as well.
[E] So this guitar has a nitrocellulose finish on it [A] and [Am] it's like, what I love [A] about the
nitro is that [D] the guitar will kind of age [C] with you as you age with the [A] guitar and so
[Em]
over time it starts to show your character and [A]
I just [E] love that.
I'm such a fan of strats with nitrocellulose finishes.
It has step gold too.
[C] What about it?
[A]
[E]
[F#m]
[A]
[E]
[B] So another thing I want to point out about this guitar is it's got the [Bm] vintage style
hardware [E] from the saddles to the tuners to even the [D] contours, true to form [Em] as it would
have been in the 50s [E] and like if I get a new strat, the first [C#] thing I'm going to do if
it doesn't have these tuners on it is I'm going to [B] put those on there and the next thing
I'm going to do is I'm going to put these saddles on there.
I just [Gm] prefer the way they feel.
I'm [E] used to it.
There are other great designs out there [E] but this is how it was in the 50s when the strat
[A] started to take off and all [E] of those iconic clairs started changing everything with this
[Bm] instrument so it's kind of one of those if it ain't broke don't fix it [Am] situations for
me and this is how I prefer a strat to feel.
