[Eb] My next guest is [N] a five-time Grammy Award winner.
He is considered by many in the music industry as the best living bass player in the world.
And no, I'm not even on that list.
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Victor Wooten.
Victor, what a pleasure.
And, no, the honor is mine.
You know, I have mesmerized by your bass playing through the years.
You have an uncanny ability to do things with a bass guitar no one ever does.
People always say to me, hey, why don't you play something?
Like I say, bass is not a solo instrument.
Then you show up and prove that it can be.
I want to talk about your music and this remarkable new CD that you've got.
But I want you to play first because once people hear what you can do with a bass guitar,
I will quit and then I'll come talk to you, okay?
There's a great arrangement of one of my favorite hymns, Amazing Grace.
Ladies and gentlemen, Victor Wooten and Amazing [D] Grace.

I want to talk about the book you have written called The Music Lesson.
Yes.
The Spiritual Search for Growth Through Music.
For you, music is not just an artistic expression.
It is a spiritual experience.
And tell me what you mean by that.
Well, it's a long – it can go on forever.
But to me, everything is spiritual.
And a lot of times, something that you can't tangibly touch but you know is there.
Sometimes that can convey a whole lot more than what you can see.
And music to me is the perfect example of that, especially instrumental music,
because you can have your own definition of what I just said.
I can have mine, and we can both be right.
Tell us about the new CD.
It's just you playing like we just heard.
Exactly.
A solo bass for all this time.
Yeah, I originally did the CD.
It's called A Show of Hands.
And actually, there's a new version and an old version.
My first CD was called A Show of Hands, and I reissued it 15 years later,
an enhanced version with extra tracks.
But I just wanted to see if I could do it.
Could I make a statement that someone would listen to with one instrument,
no overdubs, and get someone to listen to it for a half an hour?
How many hours a day does it take to be able to play like that?
Well, that's a good question.
It's really a gift [B] of God.
I'm going to put it into my campaign, and everyone will be able to play like that.
I don't know that answer.
I really don't know.
It's a gift from God, and you have such a remarkable gift.
It's unbelievable.
And I hope people will get the CD of the book.
