Whiskey Before Breakfast Bluegrass Banjo Lesson chords
Start Jamming...
All right, here's a version of whiskey before breakfast I did this in the melodic style
[Gm] We're going to play it in the key of [A] D
Which is the traditional key to play it [D] in and what I've done is [A#m] taken my fifth string the G string [Dm] tuned it up to an a note
[G] Using my [A] railroad spike there
[D] So that we're in D and [B]
I'm gonna play it pretty much like a fiddle would [A] play it
Out of a fake book or maybe a flat top guitar
Sticking very close to the melody.
I'm gonna play it slow a
Couple times they may play it up to speed and so maybe you can kind of see what's going on
[Gm] There we go
[G]
[A] [D] [A]
[G] [A]
[D]
[A] [G] [F#m]
[D] [A]
[G] [A]
[E] And that was the a section
[C] Now here's the same a section played up to speed such as [D] what might be played in a jam
Okay.
[A]
[G] [F#] [D] [G]
[A] [D] [A]
[F#m] [G]
[F#m] [G] Now we're [Fm] gonna work on the B part
[C] I'm gonna once again play it slow like I played the last one [F]
and
Try to show you what's going on.
It's a little bit more involved this up the [G] neck and
We'll slow it down and then I'll play it up to speed for you
Okay, here's that B section.
We're gonna start out on the 11th [F#m] fret and that F sharp
G string [N] and
This is kind of adapted to the banjo, it's not exactly
The notes that are probably in the fiddle fake book, but I like this particular [F#m] arrangement
[D] One [A]
[D] more time.
Let's learn
[A] [Gm]
[A] [D]
[G] [D] [A] There [E] I'm choking to get the [F#m] E [A] and then I'm gonna do some [G#m] single string [F#] picking [G] just right down that scale
[C#] [D] I'm [E] gonna reach over with my [A] thumb grab that high G
[G] This
[A] [G]
[D] [A] is probably the trickiest lick in the arrangement [Dm] that I have but
[G] Let's start out here on the 15th fret [D] my D chord position
[C#] [D] once [C#]
[G] [A]
[D] again
[G] And [C#] [G]
[D] I'm just using my ring finger to bar those [C#] strings
About the 14th [G#] fret and the 12th fret you can use your middle finger or your ring finger, whatever is easiest
[C#]
[D]
[G] [A] So [C#m]
[D] once again that B [Gm] section a little faster
[D]
All [F#m]
[D]
[C#] [D] [G] [A]
[D]
[D#] [G#] right.
Here's both the A and B section played up to speed
[G] Hope
[D] [G]
[D] [G]
[D]
[F#m] [G] [D]
[Em] [D]
[A] [F#m] [D] [E] [G]
[A] [D] [Gm] you enjoyed it
