Oh, [G] _ _ _ _
_ so today, you know, last couple years there seemed to be a lot of this. _
Oh, today we lost a musical [D] giant.
[G] _ _ [Gm] Glen Campbell passed away, you know.
_ _ And you might not think there's a lot in common with Melissa Etheridge and Glen Campbell,
but you would be very mistaken.
_ Although I [D] never met the man, _ _ [G] I did try the last couple years [Gm] of his life.
They were busy years for him.
[G] _ _
But when I was a child growing up in Leavenworth, Kansas, that's where I grew up, _ _ _
I used to go to my music store, [D]
and there was this [A] brand new kind [Gm] of guitar,
and it was called an Ovesi guitar.
_ _ [D]
And the music guy, the owner of the store, [G] he said, I'll show you this guitar.
This guitar here is called the Glen Campbell.
[Bbm] _ _
[Eb] _ _ [Ab] Glen Campbell had [Gm] his own guitar.
I was pretty impressed with that, and I said, someday, _ someday I'll have me an Ovesi,
and it'll be my own. _
_ And I watched his TV shows.
You know, Glen Campbell was [G]
insanely talented.
He was a member of the Beach Boys.
He was at one time, he was the [D] guitar player singing.
Cat, [G] that man, could play the guitar like no one else.
He was [D] amazing. _
And he [G] had a voice _ _ _ that would just go forever for days and days.
_ And he would sing.
_ And back when I was growing up in the 70s, his TV show was huge.
I used to watch it all the time, and I said, that's what I wanted to do.
And he seemed to be a kind guy.
He seemed to appreciate his audiences, and I learned a lot from that.
I did.
_ _ _ You know, [D]
some of my favorite [Gm] songs in the whole wide world, he sang.
_ It's true. _
_ There was a [G]
songwriter by the name of Jimmy Webb.
He was just one of the greatest _ songwriters.
Glen would always do his songs.
Like, MacArthur Park, and, no, nothing like that. _ _ _
He did, uh, he did the, uh, [Gm] uh, now I can't think of it because I'm playing this in my head.
_ Galveston, that's what that is.
[D] _ _ Jimmy Webb [G] broke MacArthur Park.
Never mind.
Just never mind. _ _ _
But Glen Campbell, you know, just like Greg Allman last month or so, and _ those that have gone too soon.
[D] _
[G] Music is a sacred _ art, I believe.
_ [D] _ And it's meant to heal, [G] and it's meant to make people feel.
It's meant to take them places that, [D] _ that just mere words or, [Gm] or actions can, you know.
It's [D] meant to relieve us.
_ And [G] I found all of those things in Glen Campbell's songs.
So I would like to send Glen Campbell off to his _ next hill in the sky. _
_ _ _ _ _ _
And do one of my all time favorite [D] because I come from Kansas.
_ And this [G] song was about a town in Kansas, and I thought that just made [D] us all in Kansas famous, you see.
_ _ [G] _
_ This song, when [D] Glen would sing it, he would, _ _
[G] he would, he would put so much [D] feeling in it.
You were that man, you were that [G] man driving in the truck, you know. _
_ _ [D] Down the road, _
_ _ [G] down in Wichita. _
