[N] Welcome back to Guitar Breakdowns.
Today I'm going to be doing Wilco's Jesus Etc.
The actual original of this on the album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot doesn't have a great deal of
guitar on it but there's many acoustic versions of this out there and live versions that they've
done.
It's in standard tuning but capoed on the fifth fret so I'm going to be referring
to everything as though this is fret zero upwards.
Okay, let's get into it.
[Dm] [Am]
[Dm] [Bb] [F]
[Gm] [C] [Dm]
So the song starts with a [Fm] verse and it has a couple of chords that repeat around a few
times to make an intro and those chords are A minor [Am] and E minor.
[Dm]
[Am] And then when the singing
starts it goes back to those chords.
A minor, [Am] E minor, [Dm] A minor, [Bb] F, [F] C, [Gm] G minor [C] and then G.
Then the last [G] time around of the verse it adds an F at the end which leads us into the chorus
which I'll play through that last [Dm] verse.
[Am]
[Dm] [Bb] [F]
[Gm] [C] [Bb]
[F]
[C] [Dm] [A] [Bb] [F]
[C] So [F] the chorus comes in you have this nice walk down from
the C and where you're fretting the A string on the third fret goes [C] down to the second fret.
So
you have this what I'm calling a B chord which isn't a B chord but let's call [Em] it that.
It's
the second fret on the A string, open [Cm] D, open G [Fm] and first fret on [C] the B.
[Bb] So you go down from
a C to that.
[C] [Dm] So an A minor and then an [D] interesting chord comes in which is [A] an E major but [Am] you've got
the you're still holding the first fret of [A] the B string
[Bb]
into an F [F] and then a C [C] and a G.
I'll play
[F] that through for you.
[C] [Dm] [A] [Bb] [F]
[C] And then the mid sections come in.
This [Bb] happens a few times in the song so
it isn't just a one-off middle eight and the chords for that are F, [F] C, [Bb] F [F] and then C and [C] the thing I'm
calling a B chord.
[Bb] [F]
[Bb] [F] [C]
Then you get into the last chorus and this switches up a little bit.
So the
the ending of the the chorus changes.
So [D] normally you would end on a G but this time you end on this
thing I'm calling a B chord.
So I'll play that through for you and point it [F] out [C] [Dm] [Bb] [F]
[C] and then you're
into this end section which [Bb] is just F, [F]
C, [Bb] B, F, C, [Am] B, [Bb] F, E minor, [Bb] F [F]
and that's [Db] it.
I hope you find that useful.
Really nice song, some interesting
