[Eb] Hello, here's a [Db] tutorial for Van [G] Morrison's Brown Eyed Girl.
Great song to have in [C] any guitarist's repertoire.
Everyone [Cm] knows it, everyone loves to sing along to it, and it's an easy one to [G] play.
Chords are basically just [C] G, [G] C, [D] G, D, [Em] [C] with an E minor [Cm] in there as well for the verse.
[G] The intro [Cm] though is the fun bit, and I'll just play it slowly [G] for you and then I'll show you how to play it.
[A] [G]
[C] [B] [Em]
[Am] [G] [D]
[Am] [G]
[Am] [D]
So what you've got to do with your plectrum, [A] you're going to be using the first and third strings pretty much only.
[G]
The plectrum is going to be plucking the third string, and then you're going to use your third finger [C] [E] to grab [G] at the first string.
[C] So fret the first string on the [Ab] third, like that, and then use your third finger to fret the fourth [Fm] fret on the third [Em] string.
Okay, so you're going to be doing this.
Then just slide it up to the fifth and the fifth.
Okay, so fifth on [Ab] the first, fifth on [Am] the third.
Slide [A] it up two frets, so you've got seventh [G] and seventh.
Back down to the [Am] fifth.
[A]
And then that first combination again, [G] first and, uh, sorry, third and [Em] fourth frets.
[Am] [Bm] [F] [G]
Alright, slide it right up now, same shape.
Slide it right up to the eighth and [C] ninth.
And then [Dm] to the ten-ten, [Em] twelve [Dm]-twelve, ten [Gm]-ten.
[Am] [Em] Alright, so exactly the same as what you did here.
And then up [C] here.
[B] [Em]
[Dm] [C] [Em] And back down here again.
[Am] [Bm] [Am] [G]
[D] Then make a D.
Grab the first and third.
And then you can just sort of pluck the, anything, not any water, just, kind of just anything.
[Am] [G] Yeah.
[Am] [G] [D]
Alright, so that's the intro.
[F] It takes a bit of practice, but it's not too [Em] hard.
You'll get it in a bit.
[C] Right, the [G] verse.
Just play it for you once.
Hey, [C] where did we go?
[G] The days [D] when the rains came.
[G]
Down [C] in the hollow.
[G]
Playing [D] a new game.
[G]
Laughing [C] at a rotten egg.
[G] Hey, skipping [D] out a jungle.
[G] In the [C] misty morning fog [G] with.
Ah, [D] my heart's thumping [C] you.
[D] A brown [G]-eyed girl.
[Em] [C]
You're [D] my brown [G]-eyed girl.
[D] [G]
Okay, so I'll just show you that.
G.
Hey, where did [C] we go?
C.
[G] G.
Days when [D] the rains came.
D.
Just keep [G] that up.
G.
[C] C.
[G] G.
[D] D.
[G] Keep going.
Laughing [C] at a rotten egg.
[G] G.
Skipping [D] out a jungle.
D.
[G]
G.
In the [C] misty morning fog with.
[G] C.
G.
[D] Ah, my heart's thumping [C] you.
Down to a C now.
To a [D] D.
My brown-eyed [G] girl.
Now, when you get to the G here,
play your G, then just release the fifth string.
[Bb] [A] Which then, [G]
[Gb] [Em] you want to try and get that little [G] bass bit in there.
[Dm] [G]
Just strum it.
Off, on, off.
Sorry, on, off, on.
Then release the sixth string altogether.
Thumb comes onto the F sharp, so the [A] second [D] fret.
[G] Then into an [Em] E minor.
[G] So you get into [D]
[Em] your E minor.
Then release the fourth string to make your E minor 7.
To a C.
[C]
You're [Em] my.
[D] D.
Brown [G]-eyed girl.
G.
[D] [G]
[D] Throw that bit in there.
D to D7.
Then release [A] the second [D] string altogether.
D7.
Don't know what the chord is, but.
[G] Then back to your G.
So you [D] get.
[G]
I'm going to try and bring those [Em] little lead bits in there
that you can only really get with a second guitar.
[G] If you're just playing it solo, it's nice.
[C]
[Em] [D] Brown [G]-eyed girl.
[Em] [C]
You're my [D] brown-eyed [G] girl.
[D] [G]
Okay, so that's the verse.
This is pretty much a three-verse song.
[Ab] Just before you come into that nice [G] shalalala chorus bit.
[D]
Do you remember when we used [G] to sing.
So you're just [D] sitting on that D7.
We [G] used to sing [C] shalalala.
[G]
[D] Same [G]
chords.
G.
[C] C.
[G]
D.
[D] C.
[G] [C] Shalalala.
[G]
[D] You [G] don't want to play C.
You can play C add 9.
C.
Shalalala.
[D] C.
[G]
Shalalala.
[D] [G]
Sixth string on the G [D] there if you want before you come into verse [G] 3.
So [C] hard to find my way.
[G] Now that I'm [D] all on my own.
[G]
[C] Saw you just the other day.
[G] My, [D] where you have grown.
[G] C or C add 9.
Cast my memory back there Lord.
Sometimes I'm [D] overcome thinking about.
[G] Making love [C] in the green grass.
Whatever [G] you like.
It's hard [D] to stay [C] younger with you.
[D] [G] Brown-eyed girl.
[D] [Em] [C]
[Em] You're [D] my brown [G]-eyed girl.
[D] [G]
So that was more cover than a little tutorial wasn't.
[Ab]
I just wanted [Abm] to show you a couple of little bits [G] that you can do there.
Just to make it a bit more [C] exciting than just playing straight G, D, G, C.
[F] Excuse me.
[G]
Anyway, I think that's [Ab] all you need for brown-eyed girl.
