G'day guys, I just uploaded a cover of [F#] Eddie Cochran's 20 Flight Rock [C] and I thought I'd better knock over a [G#] tutorial for it quickly as well
[E] This one's great play.
It's only three chords [D] A [E] D and E
But obviously it's a little bit tougher than just doing that because you've got all these little
[A] [E] nice little riffs going on so let's start straight away into the
[G] main part [A] A
bar across your A
Pretty much only going to be playing the middle strings here [E] fifth fourth and third
so
Just bar across with your second [C] finger third finger.
Then it's going to come up onto the fifth string third fret
[C#] [G#] Then you're gonna hammer on with your [G] fourth finger onto the fourth fret [A] so it's
Get this
[F] If you can't [A#m] manage that hammer just go straight [E] to the fourth
[C#] [A]
so
And then
[C#] [C]
[C#] [E]
[C#] [E] hit the fourth and third so
[A]
[B] [G] I'm much more untidy when I play it that's the technical way [A] to do it
[F#]
Hitting strings all over the place, but um correctly
[A] [C#]
[Am] [E]
[A]
[Am]
That's for the A riff now for the D
[D]
Shape your D.
You're not actually ever gonna hit the top string really, but I [E] still out of habit
Put my finger there anyway, it doesn't matter pinky is gonna be doing a bit of work here on the fourth fret fourth [D] string
[Gm] Exactly the same [E] thing [F#] if you can slide from the third [G#] to the fourth if you [F#m] can manage [D] I usually don't find that too hard
[G#]
So it's exactly the [E] same thing just down a set of strings really [F#]
so
[D]
[E] Back down to the A again
[A]
same riff
[Am] Exactly the same again now down on the E.
Just literally down one [E] set of strings
[G] The hammer this [G] time is gonna be on the sixth string
[F] [G]
Hitting the third [G#] hammer to the [E] fourth
[D#] Then down to the [A] A again.
[G] Just do it very slowly with the [E] lyrics
[A]
[D]
[F#] All alone I can hold it tight
Just doing some muted strums there
All alone I can hold it tight
She lives on the 24th floor uptown
The elevator's broken [G#] down
Running up the sixth string into the chorus here
[F#m] From [G#] second to [A] fourth
Into the chorus part
Now it's the same chords just going from [D] the A to the [A] D
[E]
A, [D] E, [C] D and back to the A
[F#] But all the work's gonna be on the fourth [E] fret
So I'm gonna hit the fourth fret
And hit this
[A] [G] So you're gonna [A] be
Straight to the fourth fret on the fifth
[F#m] And then straight to the fourth fret [E] on the fourth
And then up stroke
From the third
[A] Back to the fourth string on the fourth
Back [C#] to the fifth string on the [A] fourth
So you get
[F#m]
[E]
[A]
Right
[E]
[A] [F] And take that down [G] now to the D
And you're gonna [F#m] be going from the fourth
[G#] On your D again from the [E] fourth fret
[D] From the fourth to the third and back this time Fourth
Third to the fourth
Fourth to the third, third to the fourth
Back to the [A] A
Down
[E]
to the E
Back to [D] the D
To [A] the A
[E] [Dm]
[A]
Back to the first string
[E] So you can see it's all on that fourth fret Fourth [A] fret
[F#]
So [A] I watch
One, two, fly
Three, fly, four
Five, six, [E]
seven, fly
Eight, fly, four
[D]
Twelve, I'm starting to drag [A] Fifteen
Four, I'm starting to sag
[E] Eight to the top
[D] And I'm too [A] tired to run
[G]
Okay
Then in the middle there's a solo
Which I wouldn't have a clue [A] what the solo is
So I'm literally improvising
[E] Just doing a bit of those
You know, a bit of whatever
[A]
[E] [A]
Do [E] whatever you want
It's literally the same chord progression
Same chords and same riff
[G#]
I [E] throw in there a little
[D]
Jazz [G#] it up a bit
[G] If you want to do that
Up on the
On [E] the fifth string, seventh fret
Sixth fret
On the fourth string
Seventh fret on the
[Gm]
Third string
[E]
And you're gonna
[D#] [C] Slide it [E] down one fret
[F#] Then come down two frets
Slide [E] it down one fret
[D]
[F#] Back [A] into you
Instead of solo I go
[D]
[A]
[E] [Bm]
[D] [A]
[G#] That's probably not right at all
But that's just what I do
I think it [G] sounds alright
But that's all you need for Twenty Flight Rock
It's just those riffs
Just [E] mess around with that
Going [A] from the fourth
All [G] those fourth [A] fret handholds
[D]
[A]
[E]
You could probably play fifty [F#] million other fifties songs
With [G] exactly the same riff
It's literally all the [E] same
[B]
[C#] [B] [E]
It's good
Anyway
Hope that's enough for Twenty Flight Rock
There you [G] go,
[E] This one's great play.
It's only three chords [D] A [E] D and E
But obviously it's a little bit tougher than just doing that because you've got all these little

[C#] [C]

[A]
[B] [G] I'm much more untidy when I play it that's the technical way [A] to do it
[F#]
Hitting strings all over the place, but um correctly
[A] [C#]
[Am] [E]
[A]

That's for the A riff now for the D

Shape your D.
