How to Play "Summertime Blues" by Eddie Cochran on Guitar chords
Start Jamming...
The Summertime Blues, Eddie Cochran.
This is his song.
Lots of people have remade this
countless times.
So it's such a classic.
It's only three chords, super easy.
We got a request
for it and I'm going to teach it for [E] you guys.
So it is in E.
So we're playing E.
It's going
to be open, [B] second fret A string, [E] second fret D string, first fret G string, open, open.
The second chord is [A] A.
You can be lazy like me and use two fingers or you can put all three down
if you want.
But open [E] A string, second fret [A] D, second fret G, and second fret B if you want to
strum that much.
And the [Bm] B chord, we're going to use a cool B7, which is basically just second
fret [Eb] A string, first fret D [Abm] string, [A] and second fret G [B] string.
Makes like a triangle shape.
And
it's great to [E] play E.
Then you just switch these [Em]
fingers [B] to go to B7.
And then [A] A, super easy, [B] [E] B7,
E.
So it's great to [Em] change these.
So, [A]
[E] [B] [Em]
[A] [E] okay, so it's super easy to change those chords.
So this
is how we're going to go.
So the song is in [C] E and [E] it goes like this.
One, two, one, two, ready,
[A] go.
[B]
[E] [A]
[Em] [E] So that intro part is he's on E and he's going to strum it [A] and going straight to A.
So [Em] you're
just going to take these fingers [A] and lift up this one and drop them down.
[E] So,
[A] and then keep this
finger here.
[B] We're going to make a B7 and hit that three times [E] to the E.
So let's do [B] that again.
[E] Notice my middle finger [B] stays down.
[E]
These fingers just switch.
[B] [E]
So that is,
[A]
[B] [E] [Am]
[E] [A] [E] [B] [Em]
[Am] [E] I'm going to raise a fuss and I'm going to raise a holler.
[A]
[E] And he's just strumming here.
[Bb] Na na na na na na.
And he's not [E] even hitting a chord, but it's implied that he's hitting the E.
Na na na na na na.
Intro.
[A]
[E] And then we're going [A] to A.
[E] [A] You gotta work late to A.
Back [Em] to E.
[Ab]
So that's the second part of the song.
He just holds [A] on A and then goes to [E] E and pauses.
Then
[A] back to A and [E] then back to E.
And so there's only two parts of the song.
That's it.
[Abm] The [Em] beginning,
E [Am] to A.
[Bm] B [E] to E.
[A] E to A.
B to [Em] E.
I'm going to raise a fuss and I'm going [E] to raise a holler.
[A]
[Em] Na na na na na na na.
[E] [A] Then
[E] [A] going A.
Na na na na na [Em] na.
E.
And then going back to that [A] A.
[Em] Na na na na na.
[E] So super easy.
And what he does at the beginning is he's holding on this E and he's kind of going.
It's like on this first fret of the D string to the second fret of [Em] the D string.
[A]
[E] So that's the
basis of this song.
It's super easy.
The basis is pretty simple.
Three chords, very bluesy.
Summertime blues.
So rock it [N] out guys.
Good work.
