So I'm gonna do a little quick tutorial for you to show you how to play Crosby Stills Nash & Young
Carry On and why it usually sounds wrong when people play it.
So first of all, you're gonna need a guitar
Okay, so we've gotten past that
First of all the songs in E flat and the guitar is detuned _
So I've heard [G] that Stephen Stills got this tuning from Joni Mitchell
I've already also heard that he got it from someone in the Buffalo Springfield and etc, etc
I don't know.
I know Joni Mitchell [B] has used this tuning on some songs

Anyhow the low E [Eb] string we're gonna tune to an E flat
The [Bb] B string is gonna go down a half step to B flat and the high [Eb] E string
Is going to go down a half step to E flat.
So you have E flat B flat E flat
Now here's [E] the thing [Eb] the A D and G strings are also going to be tuned to E flat _ _

So you have the same note so from bottom to top it's E flat
B flat E flat E flat D flat E flat and if you give it a big strum
_ You'll hear it already sounds like
Carry on
_ You _ _ _ _ _ _ know a little lick up top [Abm] here kind of like you when [B] you're in the D [Em] position and you're doing your [D] pinky
[Eb] But [Ab] he's playing

_ _ [Eb] _ [Fm] _ _ [Eb] _ From the fifth fret to the [Abm] fourth [Eb] fret _ on the E string and then the fifth fret on the [Ab] B string _ _ _ _

Then [Gb] the chord he's moving around he's [Db] fretting the same fret with three fingers.
It really kind of doesn't matter because
[Ebm] _ [Abm] They're all the same note except for the B string.
So he's [Db] playing
_ the tenth fret
_ with the index finger and
The tenth fret on the G string and the tenth fret on the B string
_ _ Straight up and down _
So [Ebm] it's _ _ _ _ he's playing ten [Ab] _ [Gb] five three
_ [Eb] Hope I'm calling them ten five three and open because
_ It's in E flat actually the records a little sharper [Db] than E flat
I think they were in E and D tune and just slow with the speed but who the heck wants to go into that

Also, it helps to have a nice belly because it suspends the chord with the note and the guitar and it's lovely
