Hey, what's happening guys?
I'm back to do another lesson.
This time for Cariad from Crosby, Stills & Nash.
[Eb] I'm going to be showing you the way Stephen [E] Stills plays [B] this.
You [Eb] have to tune [N] all your strings down to D, except for the B string is tuned down to A.
So you're going to tune your low E down [Eb] to D.
You're going to tune your A several steps down to D.
Your D string is already okay.
G is going to be tuned down to D.
[Ab] [Eb] B tuned down to A.
High E tuned down to D.
So this is what it sounds like.
To play a D chord, that's a D chord.
[N] The first little lick you're going to play is on the high E string.
It's on the 5th fret.
Your 1st finger is going to be right underneath your 2nd finger on the high E string.
You're going to lift [Ab] off.
You're going to start with [Db] your 2nd finger hitting that note on the [Eb] 5th fret.
[G] The strumming pattern for this [Eb] song is kind of like up down, up down, up down, up down, up down.
[Ab] Let's see.
[Eb]
[F] When [N] it starts, it starts at the 10th fret.
This chord that I'm [Dbm] playing is
My 2nd finger is at the 10th fret of the [G] low E string.
My ring finger is at the [Dbm] 10th fret of the G string.
[E] I guess it's kind of like an octave chord.
[G] It could be moved around, [Eb] you know, in a movable shape.
This is going to go from the [Db] 10th fret, [Eb] [Ab] 5th, [Ebm] 3rd, [Eb] back open.
You could play [E] that chord [N] a little bit differently.
You either play it with [Eb] the octave open strings in [N] between,
or you could play it with just pressing your fingers,
[B] your [G] 1st finger down on the [E] 2 bass notes [N] on the 10th fret,
and then to the 5th, 3rd, and so [Db] forth like this.
[G]
[Ab] [Gb] [Eb]
And then when [Abm] it goes [Eb] into
[Abm] [Eb]
So
[Abm] [Bb] again, that's [Eb] 7th, 3rd, 5th, [Ab] 10th, 5th.
[Eb]
Open.
And [Abm] when you're playing this little [Eb] lick here,
[Abm] you can either play it just on [Eb] the high E string,
or you could [E] play that D chord [F] [Ab] and add your ring finger [Eb] underneath.
As long as you, [Abm] you know, once you do that little [Eb] pull-off,
play it open.
I think [E] it sounds better just playing it on the [Eb] high E string.
So, I think I've gone over everything in this,
and the main [Abm] thing is getting that [Ab] strumming pattern, I guess,
and just getting it in this tuning, for that matter.
[Eb]
[Ab] The strumming [N] pattern, just that up-down, up-down, up-down, up-down, up-down.
[Ab] It's basically, [E] the strumming pattern is the same when [Eb] you're doing this,
[Ab]
[Ebm] [Eb] as
[Ab] Look, your right [Bb] hand is going to be [N] doing that same rhythm, [Dbm] the same strumming.
[Eb] [Ab] OK,
[Eb] [Ab] [Eb] [Db]
so [E] I hope that this helps you out, [Db] [Eb] and
I'm back to do another lesson.
