Hey Guitar Buddies, that was Prince and the solo from Lady Cab Driver.
I've been meaning to get around to this for ages.
OK, so it's mainly in the key of B minor pentatonic with some added notes.
And I've also, [E] it's really fast, so a lot of tremolo picking.
So I'm not playing it exactly note for note, just trying to get close enough to play along.
OK, so [Bm] I started [Fm] with
Just before the actual solo really kicks in, a [N] little slide down the neck.
Just sliding down the strings.
And then the first lick is around the 10th position, kind of B minor pentatonic box pattern.
11 on the G string, 10, 12, 10, 12 on the B and E strings.
[B] So I was kind of sliding to B and just doing some tremolo picking.
Then pulling off to A, then playing F sharp on 11.
That kind of style.
[Bm] And then going back up the scale, [F#] [G#] and a slow bend to F [C] sharp.
So I'm going, [Bm]
that kind of thing.
Just going back [G#] up, 11, 10, 12, 10, [F#] 12 and a bend [Bm] to 14.
So kind of something like this.
[F]
OK, so that's kind of lick one.
Now lick two, [C] I was basically, I think is playing
You [G#] can definitely hear the notes of E and D [G] on 17 and 15 on the B string.
[B] There's also an F sharp in there.
[N] So, and I think what he's doing is playing it on a [E] B, like an open B [F#] note in between.
[Bm] So I'm [B] kind of going
So 17, open, 15 open, 7 open, 7 open, with just picking that fast.
[Em]
[Bm] [C] And then again, bending 17 up [G] to F sharp.
[Bm] So that's kind of lick two.
So I almost forgot, there's a cheeky little lick between this one and the next.
[B] Kind of low in the mix.
I'm just playing D, B, A, B.
[N]
7 on the G string, 9, 7, 9 on the D string.
I love this next lick.
So I'm playing on
I play 6 and [Em] [N] 9 going up the string.
So it's kind of an outside lick.
So I'm playing G sharp, B, C sharp, E, [G#m] F natural, G [F#] sharp, A sharp, [C#] [G#m] C sharp.
So it's just [C#] 6, 9, 6, [A#] 9, 6, 9, 6, [Am] 9.
[E] Slide up to 12.
[G#] [C#] And then play chromatically down [F#] to [B] 9.
And a little slide down the strings again.
So, then I'm bending up to G sharp.
So I'm 14 to 16.
[Fm] [B]
Then going [Em] 14, 12, 14, [G#m] 12.
So F sharp, E, C sharp, B.
[N] Then bending G sharp to A sharp.
[B] So bending 16 to 18.
And then bending it a further semitone [E] to get a B note.
[B]
[C#m]
And then I'm finishing with a [F#] C sharp.
[B] So up on 21 to 19.
F sharp on B.
[F#]
[B] [C] And then finishing just [Bm] repeating those notes.
[N] So 21 on the E string, 17 [B] on the B string.
[Bm]
And then finish with that C sharp, just bending it a semitone to a D.
[N] Alright.
So, great fun one to play.
So I made a little backing track.
So I'll put that on a loop and post that as well so you can practice along.
Okay, so have fun with that and enjoy Lady Cab Driver.
Thanks for watching, buddies.
