I [G]
had a little red rooster, [C]
too lazy [G] to crow for day.
I
[C] had a little red rooster, too lazy [G] to crow for day.
[D] Keep everyone in the barnyard [Bb] upset in [G] every way.
[C] And the dogs begin to bark and the hounds [G] begin to howl.
[C] The dogs begin to bark [G] and the [C] hounds [G] begin to howl.
[D] Look out, strange kin people, [G] little red roosters on the prowl.
If
[C] you see my little red rooster, please won't [G] you send him home.
If you see my little red rooster, [C] please [G] send him on home.
[D] Ain't had no peace in the barnyard [G] since [C] my little red rooster [G] been gone.
We're going to do a solo for Little Red Rooster that's not exactly the melody,
but sort of a stylized melody to it.
And before you start playing melody, even down here on the lower registers,
let's look at some of the melody notes that we want to hit.
This is a high G note up here, the first string on the fifth fret.
And frequently I want to hit that high G note, since we're in the key of G,
and not with the rest of the string.
So I bend my slide back to get just that note, slightly bending it this way.
There's a note here.
Well, let's take a scale, going down the scale we got.
So I've got these notes, [D] [E] and sometimes I'll hit these.
[Gm] [E]
Everything is almost on the, most of the notes you want are on the fifth and third fret.
[G] [Gm] [G]
Sometimes a slide player will slide up to a note,
even though they've got an open string that has the same note.
Like I've got this G note on the open third string,
I might still want to slide up to it on the fourth string, fifth fret,
[Ab] because that way I can sustain the note and get [G] that vibrato.
Likewise, [D] instead of hitting this open first string,
sometimes [G] I'll slide up there or even on the third string, way up to the seventh fret.
[C] You can also find melody notes right on those barred chords.
So if I go to a C chord, [E] I might get one of my melody notes [D] here,
or here on the D chord, [G] right on the chord itself.
So let's do a solo here that simulates the [Gb] melody a little, right where [G] I could go.

[A] I'm [G] using, you notice I'm doing a slide [Gm] here in between the,
just for little fills in between the [G] melodic phrases.
And I'm also coming up here to this high [Gb] G note at the end of those fills.
Now let's split the screen, and I'll do a similar solo, but slow it down for you,
so you can really get a close look at what both my hands are doing on the solo of the Little Red [F] Rooster.
