Hello everyone, I'm [N] Damian Bacci and welcome to today's guitar lesson.
Now today I'm going to be teaching you the famous guitar riff and the chords
to the 1964 hit by The Temptations, My Girl.
_ Okay now everyone knows all over the world this iconic guitar riff.
Now I've seen this riff played many different ways.
I've seen people slide into it like this.
[C] _ _ _ [F] _ _ _ _
_ [D] _ [C] _ _ I've seen people slide into it using double stops like this.
_ _ _ [F] _
_ [Am] _ _ _ _ [Em] _ _ _
[Gb] Now that's actually how I play it.
My band performs the song live and I play it like that.
But when I was listening to the record, the real recording, what I hear is basically just [C] this.
_ [E] _ _ [F] _
_ [C] _ [Dm] _ _ [E] _ _ Now [B] that's what I hear.
_ So I'm going to teach you that way and then if you'd like later on once you learn this
you can either slide into it or use double stops if you'd like.
It's all up to you.
Alright let's get to this.
Okay now let me show you how to play this guitar riff note for note.
We're going to start on the third fret on the A string [C] and just play that.
[E] And then we're going to go to the fifth fret on the A string.
Fifth fret to the seventh fret like this.
_ [C] So it's [E] just like that.
[Gb] And then we're going to go to the D string and play the fifth fret to the [G] seventh fret.
[A] _ Just like [C] that.
So we've got.
[E] _
_ Alright.
And then on the G string we're going to play the fifth fret. _
So let's start from the beginning.
_ _ [D] _ [A] _
Alright everybody got that?
[Eb] Let's do it again.
_ [E] _ _ [Em] _
[F] Alright and then we go to the E string on the first fret.
[G] Okay play that.
And then we go to the third fret on the E string and we play the third fret to the fifth fret.
[A] Okay like that.
And then on the A string third fret to the fifth fret.
[D] _ Okay.
Alright and [F] then on the D string third fret on the D string.
So it's.
_ [Am] _ _
[Dm] Alright.
[F] And then we go back to the third fret on the A string.
Start all over again.
[C] _ [E] _ _ [F] _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ [D] _ _ [F] _ _ _ _
_ [C] Alright.
You got it?
[Ab] Now I'd like to show you the chords that are played throughout the song.
Alright now on the verse you're going to hear that guitar riff being played.
I've got [D] sunshine [Am] _ _
[E] on a cloud.
But if you'd like to play the chords [Eb] instead of that you're going to be playing the C chord.
[C] I've got sunshine. _
[F] The F chord.
On a [C] cloudy day. _
_ [F] _ _ Okay.
Now the [E] chorus is going to be [C] C [A] D minor [F] F [G]
G [C] C D [F] minor F [G]
G [C] C chord.

[D] Okay so now we're moving on and now we've hit that middle section of the song right
before we jump up to the D chord.
Now what you're going to [C] hear is this.

D minor.
[G] To G.
D [Em] to G. E minor.

[D] And now we play up here in the D chord.
