[Db] [Abm] [E] [B]
[E] [Eb] Welcome to Eric Blackmon [Dm] Music.
[C] [Dm] Hi
[G] [C] [Dm]
[G] [C] and
[Dm]
[G] welcome to my tutorial on how to play My Girl by The Temptations on electric guitar.
The guitar's tune standard, E-A-D-G-B-E.
And to start the tune, we'll be learning to play a riff [Eb] that sounds like this.
[Ab] [C]
[G] [A] [C] [D] [C]
[F] [G] [F]
[C] In order to play that riff, we're going to start on the A string at the 3rd fret,
change position, move our hand to the 5th fret,
and then we'll play the [D] 5th fret A string, 7th [E] fret,
move to the D string, [G] 5th fret, [A] 7th fret, and end on fret 5 [C] on the G string.
So here's our lick.
[D] [Em] [Am] [C] [D]
[Em] [A] [C] [G] [C]
[D] [Em] [Am] [F] Now we're going to duplicate that lick down here at the 1st fret for an F.
And we'll play it this way.
Move to the 3rd [G] fret, [A] [D] [F]
and we'll play that [C] later in the song.
[F] [C] [D]
[C] [F] [C] [D] [Em]
[F] [E] [G] [Dm] [C]
[D] [Em] [F] [G] [A] [Dm]
And we'll repeat that for the verses.
Now, let's go to what we'll play for the chords in the [C] verses.
[F] Let's go to the [C] verses.
[F]
[C] [F] For
[C] [F]
the verses, we'll play a C and an F chord, and [Bb] we'll strum them this way.
1, [Em] 2, 3, 4
[F] [Em]
[F]
Just like that.
Next, we have the pre-chorus, and it'll sound like this.
[C]
[Dm] Now, I'll get you [G] [C] some
[Dm] [G] For the pre-chorus, [C] we'll play C, [Dm] D minor, [F] F, [G] and G.
We'll do [Ab] that twice, but we'll play it this way.
1, [Em] 2, [Dm] 3, 4
[F] 1, 2, [G] 3, [Em] 4
1, [Bb] 2, 3, [Dm] 4
1, 2, 3, [G]
4
And then we'll go to the chorus, and the chorus will sound like [Em] this.
[Dm]
[G] For [C] the chorus, we'll play a C major 9 chord, [E]
[Ab] and then we'll go to an F [F] chord, and a [G] G chord.
[C] We'll play it this way.
[E]
[F]
[G] [F] [G]
So we play the C major 9 chord, sustain it [C] momentarily,
[E] then we start striking it.
[F] F, [G]
and then G.
[F] [G] [F]
[E]
[F]
[G] [F] [G] And when we play the F and G, [F] we [G]
went
[B] Everything else is [A] down strums.
Next, we'll do the bridge, and the bridge will lead us into a modulation.
It's going to sound something like [C] this.
[F] [C]
[F] [Dm]
[G] [Em]
[A] [D]
And then we'll move to the modulation, and our modulation will sound like [A] this.
[D] [G]
[D] [G]
[D] [G]
[D] [G]
[D] [Em] [G] [A]
[D] [Em] [G] [A]
[D] [A]
[Em] And then we'll do a breakdown that goes like this, [A] [G] [Gbm] [Em]
[Ab] then back to D major [Gb] 9.
[G] [Em] [D] [A]
And that's it.
That's how I play My Girl on electric guitar.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day.
