Alright, today let's talk about James [B] Brown style [C] chords.
The guitar is tuned standard EADGBE.
We're at the 5th fret or we have a finger on the 4th fret and one on the 5th fret and
we're playing a D9.
Now, I'm barring the 4th fret from the D string down but I really only need to grab hold of
that D string and then I'm going to bar everything else ahead of it.
I'm barring the G string, the B string and the high E [B] string with my middle finger at
the 5th fret and I'm aiming for these high [F#] strings.
I'm not playing the A string or the E string so I want to get that [A#] nice bright [F#] tone like that.
And that is [C] a D9.
What I'm going to do is add a note here at the 7th fret on the high E string and get
a D6 9.
[Am]
[F#] So I [B] get that nice James Brown feel going with that [C] chord.
[Am]
[G#m] Now slide [B] into it like that sliding from the 3rd to the 4th fret [Am] covering the 5th fret
as well [F] [Am]
like that.
And that's my [F] 9th chord.
[Am] And then I'm going to hammer [C] on that high E string at the 7th fret.
[F#]
[F] [Am] Next,
[C]
we're going to move up the neck to the 9th fret.
Okay.
And we're going to [B] do a G9.
[C] Okay.
I'm here at the 9th fret here, 10th fret with my middle finger and I'm doing the same thing
I did before.
I've got my D string held down there at the 9th fret and everything below it on the 10th
fret and I'm going to play [B] this which is a G9.
[A#] Now I'm going to go up to my G6 9 [C]
by going to the 12th fret on the high E string and
go like [F] this.
[B] So I'm going down, up, down, up and then I'm going to go back by 2 [C] frets and bring it up
[Cm] [C#m]
and [B]
[Cm] [C#m]
[B] then I'll slide [A#] into that.
[B] So this is what I've got.
[Cm] [A#] [B]
[Cm] [C#m] [B]
