[Em] Hey, this is Jeff [E] with Reverb.com and another video here where we're [Gb] discussing slide guitar.
This particular video I'm actually in [Em] standard tuning.
I wanted to show you some licks and tricks that I like to do in standard.
One lick that I had in mind I'd like to show you is just a little pentatonic thing in the
key of E.
I might have gotten it from Muddy Waters or Mick Taylor or one of those players,
but it can be used as a blues intro or it can be used as a lick within the song.
But let me show you how [Ab] it goes here.
[Bm] [E]
[Eb] [E] Basically based on your little, there's a pentatonic [Em] pattern right there.
[Dbm] I'm basically playing off that and initially I'm hitting the E and the B string here and
playing a little double thing.
You can either do that with the pick or the pick and the middle finger, but I'm going
to slow it down a little here and try it.
One, two, three, [B] four.
[E]
I'd also like to point out too, there's little subtle things that make licks like this sound
so cool, like the way you slide into the note rather than just playing the note straight.
[Eb] It's the way you groove into the note.
[Em]
[B] [E]
[Gbm] [E] So it's really up to the player how far you want to slide from, whether it's a half step
or farther down the neck this way, how wide of a vibrato you want to use, how much you
want to drag the note.
So you've got to learn the lick but then do something with it and make it your own.
[E] [G]
[E] And then up to speed.
[Eb] [E]
[Gb] [Eb] [Em] Another lick that works when you're in the key of E, I'm sure a lot of players out there
are familiar with, you have your pentatonic right in the center of the neck here.
[E] [D] Kind of based on that position,
[E] starting at the seventh fret on the G string.
[E]
[D] I wanted to show you a lick too without the slide, just so you can clearly see which notes I'm playing.
[Em]
[E]
[G] [D] And of course with the slide, [E]
[D] and again all those subtle things like the way you slide
into the note or slide back to the note, there's a lot of embellishments you can do with that
to spice up the lick.
[E]
[Em] [D] [N]
Going a little higher on the neck on this one, this is a lick that I'm not sure where
I picked up, but it's one I do all the time.
And again it's just sticking to that E pentatonic.
[E]
[C] [Eb] You know the strings are pretty much muted, but I'm up here on the 19th fret and I guess
I'm kind of hitting kind of a little chord there but not really letting them sound, so
more like a muted rake.
But my goal [Eb] is to get to that note, the 19th fret, and then go down from [D] there.
So if I slowed that down, I'm going from the 19th to the 15th and then down to the B string,
17, 15, 17.
So one, two, three, four.
[Em] One more time up to [D] speed.
[Eb] [E] So now I'm going to do the licks that I showed you over the rhythm, just in the context of
jamming or in a song.
I might do a few other licks too, but I'm going to include the ones that we did so you
can kind of see them in context.

[Am] [E]
[B] [A] [A]
[E] Alright, I'm going to play [Gb] a rhythm part now for you, and all these slide licks that I
showed you will work over this.
And it's just basically a 12-bar blues in E.
I'm going to do a little intro starting
on the 5 on the B, so here we go.
