[Am] [Dm] [G]
[F] [G] [C]
[A] [Am] [F]
[G] [C]
In the first exercises I'm going to use three chords which are the C like this, [Bm] a G but
without a G bass so you have your middle finger [B] on the second of the A string, a [Bm] loose D,
a [G] loose G and your pink is on the third of the B.
[D]
[G] Then the third is an A [Am] minor 7 which
is an A minor but without [G] playing the ring [Am] finger so you have the A loose, your middle
[E] finger on the second of the D, [G] loose G and your first finger is on the [C] first of the B.
[Am] [A] Make sure when you play these chords that all the notes sound [C] clear.
[Bm]
[Am]
To create a solid right [G] hand position it is wise to put your pink on the guitar like this.
I use the thumb for the E, [C] the A and the D string.
I use my index finger for the [G] G string
and I use my [C] middle finger for the B and E string.
You can play this with a thumb pick,
this finger right here or you can just use your thumb like this.
I like the sound of
a thumb pick better, it's more defined, it's more clearer.
The counting goes like this.
[G]
[Am]
[G]
[C]
Exercise 2 is the beginning of playing [Em] a little melody while only playing one chord, the C.
The melody goes like this.
It's a high E, a [D] D which is played with the pink on [Em] the third of the B string
[C] and a C which is already played with your first finger.
[G] So it goes like [C] this.
[G] [C]
[G] [C]
It's very important to let all the notes ring as long as possible.
It's important to be aware of the counting because the melody always changes at the same two beats.
So it goes like this.
1 and 2 and 3 and [G] 4 and [C] 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 1.
[Em]
Exercise 3 starts with a melody note which is the high E.
And once again let all the notes ring as long as possible so the melody sticks out the best.
[C]
[G]
[Am] [G]
As you could hear all notes were played with the same volume.
And I think one of the most important things with playing a melody is to get a feel into it.
So you might want to experiment with volume changes and putting accents on the melody.
