Hello, I'm Martin Simpson and I'm here to attempt to demystify open tunings for you.
So you can do exactly the same progressions that you did in D on the 5th and 3rd strings,
in G on the 4th and 2nd, here on the top.
[F] [C] We looked at the [F] hollow [C] movement here, the hollow ascension if you like.
[Am] The C shape, [C] again the C shape, partial barre, [G] [C] the C shape, the partial barre, [C]
up to the octave.
[Bb]
[Eb]
[Ab]
[Eb] And then there's a double pull off.
And it's a circular movement, so the [Ab] hammer-on [Bb] is [Ab]
from the index finger to the little finger.
And then the little finger [Eb] is [Ab] pulling off in a very slightly downward [Eb]
direction, while the index finger is coming in this [Ab] direction.
[G]
We're starting with the open G with the harmonics, and [D] then it's a D chord.
And I'm starting by playing in this register, so within the triad from standard [D] tuning.
D, [Em]
E minor, and then I'm going down here [A] to the [C] C shape, but instead of using that octave, the 3rd string, I'm using the 5th string. So [G]
