Hi everybody, this is Mickey Adams of Dallas, Texas.
Thank you all so much for tuning in.
Now that YouTube is allowing me to upload 1 gigabyte files, I've been able to slow down
just a little bit and I'm going back and revisiting some of my earlier videos.
Now this one, the
Dixie Chicks intro for There's Your Trouble, is a very, very valuable lesson for beginners
and here's why.
We have multiple string groups, we have multiple string bends, we have a very
large interval to jump which requires pick blocking in order to execute smoothly, and
then we have a neat little single note line that utilizes the top strings, the staggered
strings, [F] and then we have another pick block requirement to get back down to position 5
to close the phrase.
The beauty of this song is that all of this is played over the band
playing a descending straight major scale.
I'm going to show you that at the end too.
You're beginning to see just how important they all are, huh?
Let's move to position
number 5 and here's the first phrase.
My B pedal [Em] is down to begin.
[A] [D]
[A] [Bb] Your choice.
So with the B pedal [Bm] down, I'm striking 8, 7, 6.
[D] Now I'm going to replace [Bb] my thumb position
here to string 6.
I have my thumb on string [N] 6 and the A pedal is up.
I'm going to hammer
the A pedal twice, leave it up.
[Am] [D] This is 4 and [N] 5 and string [A] 6.
[D]
From here I'm going to
[E] pick block with my thumb, slide to [B] 5.
This is the A pedal on 4 and 5 at position 10.
[D]
Pick block again, [N] move back down to 5 with the A and B pedals down, strike 4 and 5 with
your picks and raise the [Eb] A pedal.
[A] Strike [D] 6, strike 4 and [A] 5 again and [D] 6 again.
So [A] far.
[Bm] [F]
[Gbm] [Dm] [G]
[D]
[Gm] Now for the single note line.
[D]
[G]
[D] [Gm]
[N] Start with string number 5.
We're at position 10 or open D.
We're going to strike 5 and use the A and the B [B] pedal.
[E] 4, 1, [Gbm] 3, raise the [Ab] pedals, 1,
4, [E] [D] 5 [Dm] with the thumb and then the A and B pedals.
Immediately raise the A pedal and
[Gm] strike 6.
[B]
[Dbm] [Ab] [E] [D]
[G]
[D] [Gm] [Gbm] [A] [D]
We'll [Bb] finish the phrase back in a resolved into D.
We'll strike 6, excuse
me, we'll have our thumb up against 6 [B] and we'll pull [D] 4 and 5 with our picks, [A]
raise the
A pedal, [D] strike 6, [A] 4 and [D] 5 and then 6 again.
[A] [D]
Now, here's the beauty of it.
Here's the
[A] major scale, [Bm] [Gbm] [G]
[A] [A]
especially from an E minor into an A.
[Bm]
[A] [Bm] [A] [G]
[Ab] [Em] [A] [D]
