[Am] [D] [Am] Hey [E] everybody, this is Bill Carter on [B] the Texas music scene with my little [Am] buddy Ray Benson.
[Bm]
Welcome back y'all.
The song Why [A] Get Up has been covered most famously by both Robert Palmer [Bm] and the Fabulous Thunderbirds.
But we just so happen to have the [Am] actual songwriter, the great Bill [A] Carter, doing his own version [F#] right here on the Texas music [G] scene.
[G#] Why Get Up is a song that I wrote [F#m] many, many years ago for the [F#] Fabulous Thunderbirds.
A lot of people [G] have recorded it.
Robert Palmer did it, [G#] Don Williams, Country Guy, [A] a lot of people.
[A#] But that song I wrote [B] one morning, real quick, real quick song came to me, [Em] late 80s.
[F#m] And I wrote it [G#] and I [E] [F#m] didn't know the Thunderbirds at all, [Bm] but I knew somebody that did.
[B] I said I have this song I think would be great [E] for them.
They played it for Jimmy Vaughn and he loved it [D] and they recorded [C#] it.
And it [Bm] sold [E] millions, [B] literally.
It was the first song I ever had recorded.
[Em]
And so [A] that turned out to be a real good [E] thing.
It's [F#] still one of my favorites.
I still love the song.
[G] I still love playing it.
People love it.
[G#] I go on YouTube and see [F#m] everybody in every country [F#] playing it and it's pretty funny, a lot of [G] them.
But [G#] it's a good, it's a song that a [A] lot of people [A#] just really like and [B] relate to.
I wrote it originally as like a country song.
I thought a country artist would do it, [A] but oddly enough, nobody, you know, Kentucky Headhunters, one of those kind of bands, always [Bm] thought would do a great [B] job on that.
But anyway, I got some great cuts [A] from it, but it's still one of my favorites to play.
When [B] [C]
[F]
I get up, [C] how should I get up?
[G] This whole world's gone crazy, got no [C]
sleep for air.
[G] I get up, [G#]
[C] phone keep ringing right off the hook.
It's so Bill Collector, I'm no one's cook.
[F] I think I'll stay in bed, dream all day.
[C] The world outside bugs me anyway.
[G] When I get peace going, going is rough.
[C] And so I ask myself, why [G] get up?
[C] Get up, well, I get up.
[F] How can I get up?
[C] Why should I get up?
This [G] whole world's gone crazy, got no [C]
sleep for air.
[G] Why get up?
[C]
I went to the doctor, he said, lose some weight.
You don't do it quick, we'll have to operate.
[F] I talked to my lawyer, he said, case is [C] closed.
That woman got it all, even in a garden hole.
[G] Well, I'm staring at the ceiling thinking just my [C] luck I'll just roll back over.
Why [G] get up?
[C] Why get up?
Why get up?
