Bill Withers - Just the Two of Us - Guitar Lesson (Part I) chords
Start Jamming...
I'm gonna break down the song
Just the two of us by Bill Withers into the chords that I use on my version
For those who know their chord shapes already
I'll run through the sequence first
It's a C major [C] 7
Which is a bar chord [G] inversion and [B] then to a B7 sus4
Which is a bar inversion.
For those of you who don't know the sus4
You're just raising your little finger by one fret which raises it to the fourth and then resolve it
So we've [C] got C major 7
[B] B7 sus4 resolving to the B7
Then an E minor 7
[Em] Which is a straight E minor.
You just take the third finger off and then it goes to a D minor 7
Which is a bar inversion which again is just an
[G] An A minor shape [Dm] you just take off the little finger
and then a G7
[G] bar inversion
[Ab] And then it repeats that sequence again
C major 7
[C]
to B7 [B] sus4
Resolved to the 7
[F] [E] And a straight E minor
Then the verse just [C] repeats that whole sequence again
[E] C major 7
[B] B7 sus4 resolve
[Em]
E minor 7
To a D [Dm] minor 7
[G] to a G7
C major [C] 7
[B] B7 sus4 resolved to the 7 and a straight [E] E minor
[Em]
And the chorus is just the same except you drop the 7 sus4s.
So it's
C major 7
[B] B7
[Em] to E minor 7
[Ab] To D minor [G] 7 G7 C [Em] major 7 [B] to B7
[Em] straight E minor and repeats that sequence again
[C] And then the only other thing is the bridge the instrumental
Which is a C major 7
[B] Does the B7 sus4
to the B7
And it [F] drops down
A fret and does the same sequence again.
So [Bb] it's a B flat major 7
[A] to an A7
sus4 resolving to the 7 A7
[Ab] and then a G sharp major 7 which
Is that for those who don't know the shape?
It's essentially a
C minor 7 and then just raise the top
bass string
The E string up to the fourth fret
And then you've [Gb] got a G7 sus4
[D]
Again, you're just raising
[G]
[C] And then this sequence is a C major 7 but you're leaving the high E open
Bottom here and then closing it using a full bar chord so you're going
[Gb] And [C] then the last chord of the sequence is an F13
[Eb] which if you do
a B7 shape on the
Seventh fret
So you're starting with your first finger of the B7 shape on the seventh fret
if you like play a B7, but then raise the little finger to the 10th fret and
bar across [D] the high E
[Dm]
[Eb] That's an F13
[G] So the sequence [Gb] again going through for the instrumental is
[C]
C major 7
[B]
B7 sus4 resolving to the 7
[Bb] Bb [Gb] major [A] 7 to A7 sus4 to A7
[Ab] G sharp
major 7
[D] to [G] a G7 [F] sus4 [G] to a G7
[F] And then C [C] major 7 with an open top E
closing it
[F]
[Am] [Gb]
That's all the chords [Dm] [E] sorry about that
