Howdy howdy banjo Ben here again
So with the guitar [C#] this time we're gonna do a little flat [G] picking and this is one of my [F#] personal flat picking [N] favorites
It's called blackberry blossom.
I like to have a little blackberry cobbler every now and then a little ice cream little whipped cream
Some good cold milk when you get finished.
That's good, ain't it?
Anyway, we're gonna play it for you.
And then I'm gonna play a little slower
So you can see what's going on
Same old same old if you've watched my videos before and then I've also figured out Tony Rice's version
which is mighty spicy spicy rice and
I think I'll eventually post that on here too.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy
[C#] [G] [E]
[A] [E]
[D]
[E] [G]
[B] [Em]
[D] [G]
[N] All right.
That was the first break now.
I'm gonna play you the second break
That I came up with a little more fancy a little more up the next stuff
Hopefully I can get through it.
I will also show you how to do that one slow down
All
[E]
[E] [F#] [E]
[D]
[C#] [Em]
[Gm] [D] [G]
right [N] now I'm gonna slow both of these breaks down a bit so you can see what's going on
The most important thing I have to say
For [G#m] those of you who may not have flat picked a whole lot
Especially those of you who have come from electric [D#] guitar backgrounds
[N] It's the down up pick stroke
I'm of the philosophy that if the note is on the downbeat you have a down stroke if it's on the upbeat
You have an upstroke.
So in a four beat measure song such as Blackberry Blossom, which we'll play now
[F] You have down up down up down up down up one and two and three and four and
[A] Down up down up down up down up down up down up down
Now the next important thing to remember is that if you do any pull [G] offs or
Hammer ons that don't require a pick stroke.
[C] You still have to act like that.
You actually applied that pick stroke
[G] so
Like right here whenever I'm hammering on
[B] It's just [E] one down stroke, but [Gm] that actual hammer on [B] is my up stroke
So therefore next time [E] up the next note I play after that needs to be another [A#] down
[G]
[A#] down [G] up Down
[A#]
[G] [Em] Same thing applies for pull offs
[G] [D] down up
Even though I'm not actually playing that up.
I make believe like it's there that way
It'll keep you straight and square keep everything even powerful sounding
Here you go.
I'm gonna play it really slow the more tricky licks.
I'm gonna play them a couple times
[E]
[E]
[D] [E]
[D] [C] [D]
[G] [Em] [D]
[A] [F#m] [Gm] [F#]
[E] [G]
[Em]
[C]
[G] [Em]
[G] [Em]
[G] So that last lick I'm gonna play one more time so you can kind of get [Em] a grasp on it
Here we go
[D] [G] [D]
[G] So I put that pull off in there and then the triplet hammer [E] ons
[C] [G]
And that's the first break the [F] second break
I'm gonna play the first half of the a section just like I played one of the
Parts of the a section in my first break if that makes sense
[E] Just to kind of reestablish that melody [D#] and then we can start getting outside the box
[F#] [G]
[D]
[A] [Gm] [G] [E]
[Cm] [A]
[D] [F] [C]
[Em] [E] [G]
[Em] [C]
[G] [Em] [G] [E]
[Gm] [G] [F#]
[G] That lick up top one [Gm] more time.
[G]
[F#] [E]
[B] [Em]
[G]
So that last lick that I did there is a
Lot similar to
The last [F#] lick I did in the a part or the last lick that I did in the first break
But we're just gonna go up the [Em] neck at the end
[Gm] [G]
That's it.
Hope you enjoyed it blackbird blossom tune in next time
If you have any suggestions for [N] songs you'd like me to do
