_ Hey, I'm playing Blue Moon of Kentucky by Bill Monroe, but made famous by Elvis Presley straight from the courtyard to the Morristown
Youth Gym.
So, take the link in the video description, get the chart, and you can play along.
Or, if you're gonna be near
Morristown, New Jersey, come play along with us in person.
After the song, I'll do a basic tutorial.
Here goes.
Blue Moon, _ [C] Blue Moon, _ _ [G] Blue Moon, _ keep shining [D] bright.
_ _ [G] Blue Moon, keep on shining [C] bright.
You're gonna bring me [Cm] back my baby [G] tonight.
I said, Blue Moon, keep shining bright.
I said, Blue Moon of Kentucky, [C] keep on shining.
_ [G] Shine on the one that's gonna [D] left me blue.
I [G] said, Blue Moon, you're Kentucky, keep [C] on shining.
_ [G] Shine on the one [D] that's gonna left [G] me blue.
[C] Well, it was on one moon with [G] many stars shining bright.
_ [C] Whisper on high, oh love, [D] say goodbye.
[G] Blue Moon of Kentucky, keep [C] on shining.
_ [G] Shine on [D] the one that's gonna left me [G] blue.
_ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ [G] _ _ [D] _ _ [G] _ _
I said, Blue Moon of Kentucky, [C] keep on shining. _
[G] Shine on the one that's gonna left [D] me blue. _
[G] I said, Blue Moon of Kentucky, [C] keep on shining. _
[G] Shine on the [D] one that's gonna [G] left me blue.
Well, it [C] was on one moon with many [G] stars shining [C] bright.
Whisper on [G] high, oh [D] love, say goodbye.
Blue [G] Moon of Kentucky, keep on [C] shining.
_ Shine on the one [D] that's gonna left [G] me blue. _ _ _
[Eb] _ _ _ _ Pretty easy song.
[Em] I mean, not [A] very many chords.
Check out the chord chart and you'll see.
The only kind of funny thing that's even worth talking about, I think, is probably the strum.
It's, I mean, the [G] basic strum is, _ _ _
[C] _ _ _ _ but the truth is, to make it more energetic,
throw in extra beats that are _ not fully sounded because my left hand is [G] muting them, like this. _ _
_ [C] _ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ [D] _ _ _ _ [G] _ _ [Bb] _
Truth is, this song would sound good if you just plain went up and down. _ _
_ [C] _ Wouldn't sound as good, [G] but you could do that almost.
[D] Or you can keep just, keep your right hand on [G] it.
And if you experiment [C] with your left, _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
_ right, [A] by muting, by pressing it down and then letting up a little bit
so that the sound [G] changes, _ _ _ [C] _ you can add that kind of a [N] syncopation that makes it sound more rhythmic.
It makes it sound jazzier.
Bit of a jazzier song.
_ Now, I'm gonna play through one verse, excuse me, the intro and the verse and the bridge, very slowly.
So if you want to play along, if you have trouble with chord transitions or something like that
and you want to play along very, very slowly, I'll do that.
But for the rest of you, [G] that's it.

Here's the very slow version _ _ with the focus on the hands.
Here goes. _ _
_ Blue moon, _ _ _ [C] blue moon, _ _ _ blue [G]
moon, _ keep shining [D] bright. _
_ _ _ [G] Blue moon, keep [B] on shining bright.
[C] Gonna bring me back my [Cm] baby tonight.
[G] Blue moon, [D] _ keep shining [G] bright.
_ _ I said blue moon of Kentucky, keep [C] on shining. _ _
_ _ [G] Shining on the one that's gonna [D] left me blue.
I said [G] blue moon of Kentucky, keep on shining.
[C] _ _ _ _ Shining on the [D] one that's gonna [G] left me blue. _ _
Well it [C] was on one moonlight _ [G] night, stars shining bright.
[C] _ _
Whisper and _ [G] holler, said [D]
goodbye.
[G] Blue moon of Kentucky, keep [C] on shining.
_ _ _ _ [G] Shining on the one [D] that's gonna left [G] me blue. _
