One of the great things about blues is that you can use and adapt a lot of other styles of music to fit in that blues context.
Whether it's rock or jazz, you can bring those influence or those styles of playing into a blues context and really make it the blues.
One of those things that can be added or used in blues, one of those styles of playing is funk-based slapping.
Just need to make sure, take care that you're being musical and as melodic as possible and not disturbing the groove.
One way I do that is by playing more with my thumb and less picking.
