[D] [N] Hi, Nick here again with exercise 2 of the Blues Box Guitar video lessons.
This exercise will correspond with page 22 of this book and tracks 5 and 6 of the CD.
You might just want to pause the video and check your tuning before we continue.
This exercise follows the same pattern as exercise 1, [G] except that all of the strings are played
instead [Gb] of just the high G.
Now because we're playing all of the strings, it's very important to keep the [G] slides straight,
parallel with the fret markings.
If the slide isn't straight, your chord will sound out of tune, like [Bb] this.
Rather [Ab] than
Also, [Gb] get a feel for the correct pressure to put on the strings.
If there's [Ebm] not enough pressure, some of the strings might buzz.
[Ab] But if there's too much pressure, the strings will bend and sound [B] out of tune, like this.
[Bb]
What you want is that sweet [A] spot.
It doesn't require much pressure [Bb] at all.
I'll be using [N] my forefinger to strum, but you might be using your thumb or a plectrum.
OK, first play the open strings [G] once.
This is an open G chord.
Next, move the slide to the 3rd fret via the 2nd fret.
[Bb] [G] This is a Bb.
Lastly, you'll be playing the open chord again.
Now let's play that together four times.
I'll give you a 4-beat counting.
[Bb] [G]
[G]
[Bb] [G] Practice this with track 5 on the CD.
Now we'll move on to the alternate version of that riff.
OK, the alternate version of this riff is very similar to the alternate version of the first riff.
So, it comes in a little earlier, and we slide up to the 3rd fret twice from the 2nd fret.
So the whole thing is like this.
[D] [G]
Again, notice that I begin on the 2nd fret both times before sliding up to the 3rd.
Now let's play that together four times, after a 4-beat counting.
[A] [G]
[Bb] [G]
[N] Practice this with track 6 on the CD.
