Okay, so you got yourself a three string cigar box guitar now what my name is not Lenny
and if you give me about five minutes, I'm going to teach you a never fail technique for tuning [F] and
Absolutely everything you need to know to be able to play no less than eight gazillion songs.
I promise
Okay, this is my favorite configuration for cigar box guitar.
It's a three string fretless the
Marks you see here are not frets.
They're just fret indicators made with a pen and
When I first got one of these [Fm] and started playing one of these several years back
I [N] started looking around the internet to find out what the best way to tune it was because I really didn't know I kept
coming up with
DAD as this
recommended [Bb] tuning
DAD tuning [F] okay, well I quickly found out the dad wasn't in tune either
So I was completely on my own right back where I started from
So the next step is probably the most important one [N] what you've got to do is you got to get in your car
And you got to drive down to Guitar Center or some other
National chain of music retailers, and you're going to have to get off your wallet, and you're going to have to buy one of these
this is a digital tuner and
Make sure you spend a lot of money and get a really good one you're going to have to spend between
$80.90 something like that maybe more get it home make sure it's got triple-a batteries in it
Get your cigar box guitar out take a look at this thing and throw it in the garbage because you really don't need it
This is a cigar box guitar.
Don't overthink it.
That's the most important thing
DAD tuning in my mind really refers more to the interval [N] between the strings than the actual notes themselves
So unless you're trying to play along with a particular
Harmonica key or somebody else that's playing a piano or something like this the actual notes
Really don't matter that much tune it to something that is [Bb] comfortable for you
This is in what I consider DAD tuning, but it's probably more like [F] B flat F B flat
So just find a range that's [Fm] comfortable for you and tune it to
Say you see tuning.
That's what I like [Bb] to remember and what I mean by that is oh
[F] say can you see
If you can just remember that you can always get it in tune now when you're playing with a slide
I'm going to teach you a real couple of simple things to do
First of all you don't want to really push down [N] on the slide and try and fret the strings
I'm just kind of gliding the slide so it makes full contact with the strings
[F] Like that and if you can just play an open
open three strings and then slide up to the position where [A] the fifth fret would [Ebm] be and
[F] Then slide up to the position where the seventh fret would be
[F] so just those three positions open with all [Bb] three strings and
And [F] fifth fret or what would be the fifth fret
[Ebm] Just bar it all the way across and the seventh fret
[Eb] [Bb] Add one little thing [Fm] takes one finger and one note.
Just alternate [Bb] between open strings and
pressing your
Pointer finger on the second string or middle string right around the second fret
Get in the groove with it
Or and it's you can play a
At [Ab] least a gazillion blues tunes with that okay simply take the tempo up and you got some early rock and roll [Bb] vibe going
Hi, Avery
What can't you be true?
[Ebm] Maybe I [Bb] can't you
You [Fm] don't start back [Eb] to the things you [Bb] used to do
[Eb] [Bb]
[F] [Eb] [Bb] As I was
I
[Eb] [Bb]
[Eb] [Bb]
I
[Eb] [Bb]
[Eb] [Bb]
Okay there you go
three positions three strings
one riff that includes two notes
Play on one finger a very simple tuning method that'll always be in your head now, and
and if you give me about five minutes, I'm going to teach you a never fail technique for tuning [F] and
Absolutely everything you need to know to be able to play no less than eight gazillion songs.
