Buster B. Jones teaches Jerry Reed's "Jiffy Jam" chords
Start Jamming...
[N] One of the things I'd like to [Ab] point out before I move on is [A] that Jerry never played these songs the same way twice.
[Bb] [D] A lot of the times you might [Dm] find him going like
[Ab] that, but you can play the same notes here and get a different warmth all together.
[Em] [E]
Something like that.
[Bb] And he'd put in little fills every now and [D] then like
[Bb] So if you hear it played somewhere differently, don't feel like you're [A] playing it wrong, you're just playing a [Bb] different rendition of it.
Well we're going to move along now and I'm going to teach you a wonderful little song called Jiffy [A] Jam.

[E] [A] [Gb]
[E] [Eb] [B]
[E] [A] [Gb]
[E] [C] [E]
[D] Okay, there you have [Dbm] the song Jiffy Jam.
I think you noticed it right at the beginning there, I [A] embellished a little [Bb] bit and put a walking bass line in.
The reason I [Db] did that was [C] to highlight the [Bbm] actual bass line that [Bb] Jerry's playing in this song.
[C] I took it all the way up [Abm] on the sixth string, of course Jerry [E] doesn't do that.
[Ab]
He'll play the [A] open A.
[Bb]
[C] [B]
Now if we put the rest of it with it, now watch the bass [E] line.
[Gb]
[Db]
[Gbm] Now just slide this whole thing down.
[Gb] Same chord [B]
shape.
[Gb] [Bb] Okay, now pointing out once again that Jerry, tucking [Gm] that finger up like a little piece of popcorn,
he would come down [F] and play the melody [C] note with his thumb pick down on the third or even the second string, it didn't really [E] matter to Jerry.
[A] [Gb]
[E] [F] [B]
Okay, now [Db] that's a bit of a handful, you don't actually have to do that, you can [A] get a pretty good sound without it,
but it [Bb] really brings that kind of claw feel to the song.
One other thing I'd like to point out [Bbm] before we split the screen is right at the end of the song,
[C] excuse me, the second part.
[E] [A]
[E] Now what he's doing [Bb] is he's just kind of hammering and pulling off when he walks up [B] into this.
[Db]
[Dbm] [E] Okay, just use your first finger as a bar all the way [Bb] across.
[A] [Abm]
[Gm] There's that D9 shape again.
[Gbm] [B] Okay, let's [C] try that one more time, just sliding my bar up.
[Dbm]
[B] [Bb]
[A] [Abm]
[B]
Got [A] like a B7 there and [E] then into the E.
Alright, the last thing we want [Bbm] to look at once again [Em] is the closing of [Ab] the song.
It's a great [E] little lick up here.
[A] [C] [E]
Now this to me is just [Am] playing out of basically [E] a G shape, [Bb] making it a seventh, then [Gbm] into a C shape like [A] this.
[Am]
Now you [Bb] can do all kinds of combinations here, but this is the one [E] Jerry had.
[Am] [Bb]
Plays [E] open E, boom.
[A] [E]
[Eb] It's a bit of a handful, but [Bbm] I think you can get it.
So I'm going to split the [Am] screen now and we're going to [Gb] try and play Jiffy Jam [D] real slow for you.
[E]
[A] [Bb]
[E] [Ab]
[A] [Bb] [Dbm]
[E]
[A] [Gb]
[B]
[E] [A] [Gb]
[E]
[Gb] [F]
[E]
[Gb]
[Em] [E]
[Gb] [B]
[Em]
[Bb]
[Abm]
[B] [E]
[A] [Gb]
[A] [B] [E]
[A] [Gb]
[E] [Em]
[B] [Gb] [Gbm]
[E]
[Dbm]
[Ab] [Abm]
[Eb] [B]
[E] [Gbm]
[Gb] [F]
[E]
[A] [Gb] [E]
[C] [E]
Okay, [Bb] well there you have Jiffy Jam.
I think you'll have a lot of fun with that one.
I think if you watch [Ab] that split screen [Bb] real close on my [Bbm] right hand,
you'll notice that I popped in back and forth [D] between popping the finger up here like Jerry
and then playing it of course the way I do.
