[Em] So, actually [Eb] I [Em] play this way.
[G] So I'm in the [Em] key of E, [B] so I go,
[Em]
so I'm playing, here's
the E chord there as well, so I start here.
I've got these notes ringing as well, the
B and the E, because I'm playing.
Then I switch [E] to this shape.
There's the E there, but at
the same time I'm still playing the open E, so you get.
Now, I [Ab] go, [A]
that's a little [B] move
of mine that [N] I came up with, and it's an E [E] augmented, and I [Ab] go, [A] [E]
[Ab] [A] [Bbm]
[E] [Gbm] [E]
[Dbm]
[E] [A] [Gb]
[B] [E]
[Bm] [Am] [E]
[Ab] [A]
[Bb] [Ab] [E] [B]
[Dbm] [Ebm]
[B] [E]
[Gbm] [E] [Em]
so let me just go really
slowly for you.
[E] [Ab]
[A] [Bbm]
[E] [B] [E]
[Dbm]
[Gbm] [B] [Em] [Db]
[Gb] [B]
[E] [Gb]
[E] [Ab] [Gb]
[A] [Bb] [E]
C [B] diminished,
[E] [B] C sharp minor, [E] [Gb] F sharp, [A] [Bb] [B]
A.
[E] [Gbm] [E]
Okay, that's the basis of the
arrangement.
And then the second time around I do [C] a move which [Eb] Chet Atkins gave me.
I was
playing this at [B] his house [E] one day, and he said, stop, [Eb]
I've got something for you.
So
[Dbm] the second time around, [G] this is what he gave me.
It's so beautiful.
[C] So instead of [Cm] going,
[Dbm] [Ab]
[Gb] [B] [E] [Db]
[Ab] somebody showed me.
[Dbm]
[C] [Abm] [Gm]
[Eb] [A] [E] [Gbm]
[Em] It's a classic gospel move, [Ab] right?
[Dbm] [C]
[Abm] [Gm] [Eb]
[Em] So it has a contrary motion.
[C] It has the bass going up, [B] and the melody [Abm] going down.
[G]
[Eb] [A] [E]
[Gbm] [E] What a [N] great move.
And what was the,
you said it was like an E, some kind of E shape, it was like the second, third chord?
[Em]
[E] [Ab]
Yeah, right there.
[E] It's augmented.
I'm [A]
[Bb] [Dbm] [B] using my thumb a lot as well, and so that [Db] kind of fools
people.
I also do something [B] that fools people a lot, [Ebm] and I don't do it on purpose to fool [Eb] people.
I do it because I can, and that's, I use, I cover two strings with one finger a lot, and it fools
people's eyes because they think, where's that extra [E] note coming from?
[Ab] I'm going, [Bm] I've covered
[C] those two.
[Ab]
[A] [Dbm] [Ab]
I'm a bit unorthodox with how I use [E] my thumb, and it goes both ways, and [C] I find ways [Em] of
getting, it's all [Gbm] about trying to play the song with as much feeling as I can, and get as many
[B] good ideas into it.
So I look for [E] the positions that do that [Ab] for me.
[A]
[G] [Abm] [Ab]
[A] So I'm using the A, but [Em] I'm
still playing the melody there, [A] so you get, [Em] and I've covered [A] those two with that finger, you see?
So I'm doing it in like every second bar, I'm doing stuff like two strings with one finger,
[D] and all that kind of stuff.
That's why it's [Eb] hard for me to explain [B] what I do, [E] because it's just,
I don't know, I'm not following any design, I'm just trying to find, with [F] every one of my
arrangements, I have to be satisfied [B] with [Am] the chords and [Ab] how it feels and everything, and if I
can't, you know, [N] see someone do it, then I go looking for it until I find it, and I don't quit until I do.
