[F] [B] Hi, I'm Julie, and it's time for [E] the Chord of [F] the Week.
[Bb] [A] Thanks for coming back [N] this week.
I'm here to remind you that everyone wants to play lead, [Bb] but chords are cool.
This [N] week, our chord is F major 7 sharp [F] 11.
[N] Here's a chord diagram.
How do you play F major 7 sharp 11?
It's a really neat, exotic [F] sounding chord.
[N] It's almost like playing an F major bar chord, but [E] you're leaving the E string open and the
B string open.
So use your [N] first finger on F, that's the root of the chord, on the sixth string, first fret.
Your third finger on C, on the fifth string, third fret.
That is the fifth of the chord.
Then we have another F, the root, with your pinky [Dbm] on the third fret of the fourth string.
[N] Then we have A, that's the third of the chord.
You're using your second finger, second fret, third string.
Then we [E] have open B and [F] open E.
You can noodle around with this shape pretty much anywhere
on the neck.
[Em] [E]
[F] How do you make F [G] major 7 sharp 11 sound good?
[E] [Bb] Well, the main thing [F] is making sure [E] that B and E ring out nicely.
So don't mute them.
Use your second finger on that A string, [F] curve it around so it's not [B] resting against the
B. Okay?
[F] And then having enough strength to hold down that F note on that sixth string.
Sometimes that [Gb] takes a little bit to warm up and build [F] up.
But once you get it, it's a great chord.
[Em] [N] You can find F major 7 sharp 11 in For the Love of God by Steve Vai.
