The right hand series of proficiency exercises I will be showing here was originally designed by Maestro Abel Carlevaro
in his famous School of Guitar Treaty and the four exercise books that accompanied the work.
It shows a series of fantastic right hand combination, fingering combination,
that allow for perfect development of the right hand sound and coordination,
synchronicity of both the right and the left hand.
The main objective with the technique ought to be always sound, the quality of the sound that you produce.
Your fingers will be working from the main knuckle here [A] in a very subtle movement,
where this closes like a hinge and then goes back to its original position, something [Em] like this.
[A] There is as little jumping or moving of the [Am] right hand.
Actually, the right hand ought to be steady and the only movement is actually originated here, the main knuckle.
The right hand proficiency series that I will be developing [Bb] encompasses many, many variations that I [A] will show in stages.
[Ab] But they all work around a very simple left hand chord that you see here in [A] the staff that [Ab] I put down here on these pages.
And what it does is move that model up and down the fingerboard, all the way down to the 10th position.
So it goes something like
[Gb]
[Am]
[A]
I am playing the first one [Am] of the many variations to this formula.
And what I do is just scoot the chord down [Ab] one fret towards the 12th fret every time I change.
[E] So I go
[B]
You ought to [A] avoid all left hand squeaks.
You lift finger 1 from the 4th string and then [Am] go.
Notice that the thumb and the 8th finger are working together.
[Bb] [A]
[E] [A]
Then you go backward all the way to the 1st [E] position.
[Am] [A] [E]
The speed ought to be brought up [Am] in stages and all very gradually.
[E] Never hurry and always keep in mind that sound is the main and the most important factor to be kept intact.
So speed ought to be taking the back seat to this exercise.
[Em] [A]
