Colin Hay performs "Down Under" (Men At Work) at the Santa Cruz Guitar 40th Anniversary Concert chords
Start Jamming...
This is my signature model guitar.
They didn't really build it for me as a signature model.
I just got a f*****g Sharpie and just signed the inside of it there.
[F#m] I'll play you a song now that's the most successful song
that I've ever been involved with so far.
[N] I'm very optimistic.
Now when I first heard about Santa Cruz Guitars,
not here in the States but in Melbourne,
by a Scottish friend of mine.
[F#] He's a guitar player called Alex Burns.
I was at the gym and Alex is kind of a tough guy.
He's like a lot of Scottish guys.
He's got a soft [F#m] centre.
He looks like a hard man but he's a lovely [B] [Em] guy.
He said to me,
Are you away to live in America then are you [A] Colin?
I said I am.
He said, Oh [G] that's great.
He said, What kind of guitars do you play?
[F#]
I told him,
He said, Oh, you know,
you should play a Santa Cruz guitar.
I said, Really?
He said, Oh why?
He said, Where are you going to live?
I said, I'm going to Los Angeles.
He said, Oh.
He said, Well I'll tell you what you do.
You get in your car and you drive up the coast.
It's lovely.
He said, It's just like Scotland except it's not [N] raining.
And he said, You stop in Santa Cruz.
And he said, You get yourself a Santa Cruz guitar.
And that's what I did.
It was good [A] advice from Alex.

I played this song the other night at this called Down Under,
the song, and I played it the other night at a friend of mine's wedding.
And after I finished playing it,
this young youngster, as Ed Sullivan used to say,
and now for the [N] youngsters,
you can't really do Ed Sullivan impersonations anymore
because it's just, you just don't really,
because he's just, no one knows who he is anymore.
Except for you people.
[B] [F] But it'd be great to hear Ed Sullivan talking about with Modern Speak.
You know, Wow, tonight on Facebook just blew up.
All the social media is just popping off.
[N]
I watched all the Beatles performances on Ed Sullivan again the other night on DVD.
And it's great.
There's this one where the crowds are going hysterical, you know,
and Ed can't control them.
And he usually can.
And they're all yelling.
He wanted to go to a commercial for Niacin or something.
And he's, Come on now, quieten down.
And no one would, not the crowds, just go, Ah!
They'd go nuts.
And then he got exasperated.
And he goes, Come on now, quieten down now.
What are you, a communist?
[F] [Bm]
Anyway, I played down under at this wedding the other night.
And this young guy came up to me and said, Wow, man.
He said, That's a really great version of [N] that song.
I said, Oh, thank you very much.
I said, You know, I wrote the song.
And he went, Oh, well, it was still good.
[Bm] [A]
[Bm]
I, like everybody else, ladies and gentlemen,
have been very pleased and honored to be here tonight for Santa Cruz's 40th birthday.
So please give them one round of applause again.
